Talk:La Romana, Dominican Republic

Cement? edit

In the "History" section of the article, we see:

"In early 1960, Gulf and Western Industries, Inc. purchased the sugar mill and started to invest in the livestock industry which was cemented in the province."

Just what does this mean anyway, how is an industry "cemented"? Or could they have meant "centered"? I was in La Romana a few years back and was well aware of its huge sugar industry, but is there also a "cement industry"? The Spanish article says:

"A principios de 1960, Gulf and Western Industries, Inc. compró el molino de azúcar y empezó a invertir en la industria ganadera y cementera de la provincia.", which translates to:

"At the beginning of 1960, Gulf and Western Industries, Inc. bought the sugar mill and began investing in the livestock and cement industry in the province."

I don't know if the Spanish version of the article is any more accurate. ¿Hay algún wikipedista que vive en La Romana o quien ha visitado el lugar recientemente que pueda clarificar todo esto? DutchmanInDisguise (talk) 03:26, 10 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
