Using citation templates from Trove

edit

Hi Southern Armada, Here is an example showing the use of citation templates provided by Trove. I went to Google and searched "Hotel Kurrajong Heights". The 14th result pointed me to https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/85956118 this in Trove. Trove (NLA) has worked with Wikipedia to make articles such as the above very easy to cite in Wikipedia articles.

If you go to that Trove page above, and click on the information symbol (the i in white circle) near the top left, a panel headed "Details" will appear. If you scroll to the bottom of that panel you will see "Wikipedia citation". Trove has preformatted the citation template for use in Wikipedia. Copy the template ie (the 2 opening curly brackets) cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article85956118 |title="Hotel Kurrajong Heights" |newspaper=Windsor And Richmond Gazette |volume=38, |issue=2037 |location=New South Wales, Australia |date=5 November 1926 |accessdate=7 April 2018 |page=1 |via=National Library of Australia (plus the 2 closing curly brackets). In your article about the hotel you write, in your own words, a couple of sentences about the transfer of the licence. Then, to cite where you found the info, simply paste that preformatted citation at the end of your last sentence. (Also add the opening and closing ref tags which you already know how to use.) Note that the preformatted citation even includes a link to the WP article about the newspaper in which it appeared, ie Windsor and Richmond Gazette. Very rarely there may be a minor problem in the template. In this one Trove has a capital A in the Windsor And Richmond Gazette which is causing a redlink. Simply change that to lowercase and the internal link will turn blue and work properly. I hope this helps. Regards, JennyOz (talk) 04:25, 7 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

This article needs to be re-written. An encyclopedia article should not simply copy what sources say, particular in such detail and in present tense, but should use them to write a brief history. Melcous (talk) 15:11, 19 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
