From a small suggestion to a large one

Noting an absence of reference to the "Dry Bones" undead Koopa character here, I inadvertently found it in the Koopa Troopa article. I think it will take a stronger argument than I can produce to keep these two articles separate and distinct; already they are largely redundant, with no solid distinction made between Koopa Troopas and the non-Troopa variety of Koopa.

• • And I have reverted. The merge was poorly done and essentially eliminated all the information from Koopa Troopa entirely, which is the older article by two years and has undergone peer review. The articles should be merged, but the information from this article should be mreged into Koopa Troopa. I agree that the current Koopa Troopa article is really about all Koopas and not just the Troopas, however. Once the two articles are properly merged, the Koopa Troopa article can be moved to Koopa. You were right that my merge eliminated a lot of important information. I have edited the "koopa troopa" article so that it only discusses koopa troopas. The information that it contained about other types of koopas I have already transferred to this article.04:55, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

OK, the two articles should not be merged. They are two different subjects. This article just has a lot of information that should only be specific to Koopa Troopas, and that may be causing some confusion. I am going to clean some stuff up. --Kaleb.G 07:50, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Language Section

Um... it seems pretty unlikely that thise noises are actually translatable, so this section is pretty misleading. Especially as in most cases Koopas appear to speak the same language as everybody else anyway. I suggest the section is removed. --Justdig 19:20, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

Blue Koopa in NSMB?

Is there actually a blue koopa or just the shell? I am editing the article to mention the shell, if anyone has actually seen a Blue koopa please feel free to revert Ajmayhew 11:14, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

The Blue-shelled koopa only appears on the ice level of Mario vs. Luigi mode. You stomp on him to get the blue shell powerup.

Species or something else?

Over at the Super Mario wiki, Koopa is defined as a "species" and Koopa Troopa as a "sub-species". However, I currently have used the terms "collection/number of species" and "species" respectively. Which nomenclature should be used? I don't believe there's any way to tell for certain.

All I know is that creatures in the same species can breed, and I certainly haven't seen any Hammer Brother/Lakitu hybrids or anything of the sort. XD --Kaleb.G 09:34, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

The way I see it, "Koopa" is a species, while "Koopa Troopa" only refers to those normal "Koopas" who work for Bowser as his "Troops". Since almost all of them work for Bowser, the two names are often interchangeable. I do not believe the character Koops, from Paper Mario 2, to be a Koopa Troopa (just a Koopa) because he does not work for Bowser. Furthermore, I believe Paratroopas wings are given to them by Bowser, (seeing as they lose them right away) which would not make them a different species. Hammer Bros might be a diffrent species because they are sometimes bigger than normal Koopas, but that seems to be the only difference. (Viewport 16:20, 20 March 2007 (UTC))

You have a point. I just think the name "Koopa" is too ambiguous to just refer to one type of turtle. In addition to it's proper use as Bowser's name, "Koopa" is also used to refer (in part) to Bowser's children. There's a lot of different things it can refer to. Also, the Super Mario Wiki also calls this particular turtle species (or sub-species rather) "Koopa Troopa".

However, I guess the only way we'll get this resolved is to start bringing in some references from actual games and their manuals. Paper Mario 2 (and I think even Paper Mario 1) seems to just refer to each one as a "Koopa".

I should have been more specific.. "Koopa" is the name of ALL the turtle characters. A character like Koops, which is not a Bowser army troop, is simply a "Koopa", because he has no special abilities or alliances. "Koopa Troopa" are those who have no special ability AND work for Bowser. "Koopa Paratroopa" is a higher ranking "Koopa Troopa" which has been given wings. Lakitu is also a higher ranking Koopa Troopa on a cloud. Hammer Bros. are Koopa Troopas with weapons, and so on and so forth. I think I read on Paper Mario 2 about the ranking thing, but I'll look into that. (Viewport 21:13, 20 March 2007 (UTC))

I was right! Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door refers to all Koopas that do not work for Bowser as simply "Koopas". I checked the game itself. So there you have it. (Viewport 16:43, 21 March 2007 (UTC))

Terrapins

I was reading the Koopa Troopa page on MarioMonster.com > http://www.mariomonsters.com/archives/character.php?id=246 and well it says that some people say that they are an entirely different species due to them being armored. But due to they fight for Bowswer and walk on two legs, they are a close relative to the Koopa Troopa. Mr. C.C. 18:01, 24 September 2007 (UTC)
