editApparently Ministry of Works documents indicate that Knight's Point was named after "the obscure dog of an obscure employee of the Ministry of Works."
I live in Canada now so I don't have any access to New Zealand Archives, but the "obscure employee of the Ministry of Works" was my father, Frank Pearson, who surveyed and named some places in South Island New Zealand as well as Antartica in the early 60's. I'm sorry I don't have any proof of this aside from anecdotal, but maybe if someone has access to records it could be verified? Perhaps there are records somewhere.
Thanks. :)

- I've heard that it was someone else, but I also am separated from the archives by a body of water. I'll mention this at the New Zealand Wikipedians' notice board and see if someone in the area could check it out. Blarneytherinosaur gabby? 06:29, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
