  • "The Kidwelly and Llanelly Canal was a canal and tramroad system ...". Isn't it still a canal?
  • Not really. It ceased to be a canal in 1869. Most of it is buried under a defunct railway, and I am not convinced what is left constitutes a canal. Bob1960evens (talk) 08:26, 6 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • "In 1865, the company became a railway company, amalgamated with the company running Burry Port". Rather a lot of "companies" colliding there.
  • Reworded, to remove one of them.
  • "(This article uses the spelling Llanelli when referring to the town, and Llanelly when it forms part of the historic name of the canal company.)" This has no place in the lead or indeed anywhere else in the article. Make it a hidden comment if you think it's important, or perhaps better a note.
  • The note was added because this was originally called Kidwelly and Llanelli Canal, but then someone changed it internally to Kidwelly and Llanelly, although the article name retained the Welsh spelling. The page has recently been renamed to use the English spelling, despite being in Wales. I have commented out the statement for now, until I can work out how to do notes. Kidwelly and Llanelly Canal
  • "Two engineers, Edward Martin and David Davies, proposed an extension of the canal to the top of the Gwendraeth valley, and another which would cross Pinged Marsh and would terminate at Llanelli, passing through Pembrey, in addition to improving access to the harbour." Trying to cram far too much into one sentence.
  • Sentence split and reworded.
Pembrey Canal
  • "At the same time, Thomas Gaunt was active in the area". At the same time as what?
    Reworked to clarify that it was at the same time Pinkerton and Allen were building southwards.
  • "... with traffic going to the Pembrey new harbour". Using "the" in front of "Pembrey" makes it look like "Pembrey new harbour" is the harbour's name, in which it ought to be capitalised. Otherwise it ought to say something like "the new harbour at Pembrey".
  • Reworded as per suggestion.
James Green's extension
  • The image caption talks about "Stanleys Tramway", but that isn't mentioned in the article and I don't see it in the graphic of the canal's layout.
  • I have added Stanleys bridge to the route map.
  • "... recommended completing the link from the Ashburnham Canal to the new Pembrey harbour. This would require a lock at Ty Mawr, with water supplied by the Dyvatty brook and a new reservoir to be constructed at Cwm Capel in the Dyvatty valley". The capitalisation here and in some other places looks rather arbitrary. Isn't it "Dyvatty Brook", "Pembrey Harbour" and "Dyvatty Valley"?
  • This is debatable. I have followed the capitalisation used in the Carmarthenshire Antiquary. Modern maps are not a lot of help, since Dyvatty brook is labelled Nant Dyfatty, and Dyvatty valley is not labelled, but is probably Cwm Dyfatty. Bowen (2001) uses "Pembrey harbour". Referring to the Dyvatty, he uses "Dyvatty Brook" when quoting Green, but "Dyvatty river" in the text. I can change it if you really want. Bob1960evens (talk) 22:01, 5 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

  • I think I have now made the map consistent with the text.
  • The capitalisation still doesn't seem to be entirely consistent. For instance, we have "Ty Mawr Lock" but "Cross Lane lock" in the route graphic, and I mentioned "Pinged Marsh" vs. "Pinged marsh" below. Malleus Fatuorum 18:44, 7 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • I must have missed Ty Mawr Lock. It is now fixed, and I also found some inconsistency with Kymer's dock, which is also fixed.
  • "With the construction of a new harbour in progess ...". What does "with" mean here? While?
  • Text reworked.
  • "The intention was to link New Lodge to Pwll in due course, to provide a tramway link from the harbour to Llanelli, and this was eventually opened on 8 July 1837." Awkward, needs some work.
  • Text reworked.
  • "At the southern end, a deep cutting was required to reach Burry Port harbour, and this was completed by March 1835." It's unclear whether the "this" is referring to the cutting or to the harbour.
  • Reworded, with Burry Port nearer the beginning.
Subsequent development
  • "With the completion of the extensions, the canal settled down, and satisfactory levels of traffic were carried." Another "with", but how can a canal "settle down"?
  • Text reworked.
  • "... the last recorded sailing bound for Llanstephan was in the early 1920s". Is that the last sailing, or just the last sailing to Llanstephan? The way it's written leaves open the possibility that sailings to St Clears continued, for instance.
  • Reworked, moving Llanstephan to end.
  • "... along the towpath over Pinged marsh". It was capitalised as "Pinged Marsh" earlier, in the Kidwelly and Llanelly Canal section.
  • Both now use Pinged marsh.
