A couple obscure points/questions edit

  • I see in [1] that a year name of Shugi says "Year Karhar was destroyed" followed by "Year after the year Karhar was destroyed". Actually, he destroyed it 4 (or 5) times.
  • There are inscriptions of Zardamu and Tiš-atal listed as kings of "Karakar" in "Frayne, Douglas. Ur III Period (2112-2004 BC), Toronto: University of Toronto Press, 1997". Is Karakar the same city as Karkar? If not maybe the Shulgi year name referred to Karakar.
  • In [2] there are several OB year names for "Karkar".

Anyway, this is mostly me wondering if there is another unknown city, Karakar or KarHar, they I can keep on my mental list of missing cities.:-) Ploversegg (talk) 19:25, 6 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Shulgi's year names refer to a place in the Zagros or at least somewhere east of Hamrin more generally which is also attested under the name Ḫarḫar and a few other variants. The other two guys seem to come from the same place. So yeah, we have two lost cities with similar names, but not really close to each other. There's some discussion of this other Kar(a)kar/Karahar in Wilhelm's old The Hurrians too, but not much. It's still attested as a toponym in Neo-Assyrian times according to the RlA but the entry is old and pretty clearly not up to date.
The OB year names are almost definitely the Karkar the article covers though. HaniwaEnthusiast (talk) 19:53, 6 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
