Contested deletion

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because of a number of reasons. This clip has recieved worldwide attention and is now famous within Australia and has been referred to by a number of articles, even some noting its 10 year anniversary.

The term "Waiting for a mate" in connection to this particular term in Australia has entered the general Australian lexicon in reference to this incident, with the term being generally used for the description of when a person is waiting claiming to be innocent, but in fact a dramatic incident (in particular a car accident) has occurred.

A number of sources discuss this meme, including The Guardian, and have noted it as being one of the most humorous clips on the Internet. Within Australia the clip is famous.

Similarly, the fact that a number of articles are noting this incident 7 years after it happened, and others celebrate its 10th anniversary, point to its longevity in the public consciousness. --Deathlibrarian (talk) 10:41, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
