Proof of notability - passes WP:NACADEMIC #6

Lead The last sentence of the lead implies he died at the high school, probably best to include the city here to.

Clarified that sentence. Ergo Sum 21:27, 17 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

I removed the second wikilink to St. Andrew-on-Huston in the infobox, revert if you wish.

As far as infoboxes go, I tend to err on the side of link, but I don't think it's as called-for here because the two links came in rapid succession. Ergo Sum 21:28, 17 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

The redlinks are okay, both of those guys will pass WP:NACADEMIC #6 as the heads of a major university.

I'd recommend changing the links of St. Andrew-on-Huston to a section within the page it links to, it looks odd to link to the lead of the culinary school when you're referring to its days as a Jesuit organization.

I don't know if there actually is a section in that article that would be great to link to. When i get some time, I intend to create a standalone article for St. Andrew-on-Hudson, so leaving the links to that in place, rather than to a section, would actually be helpful. Early life "He attained the rank of gradus" What does this signify?

Added an explanatory footnote. Ergo Sum 21:33, 17 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

"There, he was ordained by Cardinal James Gibbons a subdeacon, deacon, and priest" - I'm more familiar with Baptist congregations, where there's not this sort of heirarchy, but would the phrasing be "as a subdeacon" or "a subdeacon"? That sort of stuff seems to vary by title a lot.

I've seen many instances of both phrasings. Since the phrase in kind of split put by the cardinal's name, I"ll go ahead and add "as". Ergo Sum 21:34, 17 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

Academia Did anything noteworthy happen during his tenure at Loyola? If so, that should be mentioned. Canning's primary notability comes from his term as president of Loyola, and a sentence is given to it.

I've looked far and wide for some writing about his time in office, but haven't been able to find anything. Perhaps in the future, some of his presidential papers will be published, if they still exist. Ergo Sum 21:35, 17 February 2020 (UTC)Reply

That's about it, the refs and image check out. The section about his tenure at Loyola could use some expansion, but that's about it. Hog Farm (talk) 05:59, 16 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
