Press release/COI

I have zero COI with this person (I created his article after I read his name in Variety when he was throwing a fundraiser for HRC's failed presidential bid) and I don't see what would make it sound like a press release at all. If you want to rephrase some of it, please do it or discuss it here, but adding aggressive COI/press release tags at the top of the article seems pointless and only makes Wikipedia look bad. • Let's distinguish between your edits to the article, Zigzig20s, and those by several other accounts, including one whose username is identical to that of the subject. I removed some of the unsourced and promotional tone yesterday, but there remains more such content, and rephrasing isn't the answer--per WP:BLP guidelines, if it's personal and unreferenced, it doesn't belong. Tagging the article for these issues wasn't aggressive, but the addition of blatantly promotional content was; given your interest here, I'm surprised that over a period of months you never stemmed the tide of such edits. 2601:188:1:AEA0:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 18:33, 18 January 2017 (UTC)

I think most of it is, though I don't see a reference to support Vein began his professional career working in technology companies, including Teledyne Relays and Hughes Aircraft, where he worked on the "Star Wars" program under President Ronald Reagan. The old unsourced promotional content was added again, Zigzig20s. I'm rather hoping you'd keep as close an eye on that as in removing relevant templates. Thanks for the heads-up. I've trimmed the unreferenced content. The article looks good right now, and there appears to be no COI problem in this current state. If the promotional content gets added again, we could simply get it protected as you suggest, but the COI issue appears to have been fixed.Zigzig20s (talk) 05:19, 29 January 2017 (UTC)

I am the subject of this article. It was written with incomplete and misleading information. I am not suggesting this was done deliberately, but it created a false impression of me and my background, and it is created issues for me professionally. As a result, I filled in a more complete view. It is not intended to be promotional, but just factual. I have relatively little familiarity with Wikipedia rules, though I did read the guidelines for articles of this nature (biographies of living persons), and I believe it is compliant. It is difficult to source facts such as high school and college, but if you can suggest how to provide such sourcing, I will do so. As far as lists of organizational affiliations, I believe that list is also compliant, and if the intent of these articles is to provide a complete picture of the subject, then I don't understand how/why such a list would be removed. I am not trying to be difficult, but rather I would prefer that if there is an article about me, that it be accurate and comprehensive. It seems that wholesale deletions have been made, rather than merely editing things that are concerning. Please assist me here, as I am just trying to have an accurate representation. Thank you.

Please use this page to let other editors know what content is wrong, and if they can be removed and amended with support of WP:RELIABLE sources, they will be. I am genuinely trying to figure out what is considered promotional. My place of birth was removed. Is that promotional? My high school was deleted. Is that promotional? Please advise how and why. The list of boards I support and lead has been deleted. Why is that considered promotional? It is a factual description of what I do. Please be specific. If there is specific language that is objectionable, i am happy to have it removed, but I do not understand the deletion of purely factual information. I would be appreciative of your help so that I do not run afoul of the rules -- but also understanding that I believe a biographical page should include the salient information, and that is all i am trying to do. And as you can see, I am not very familiar with the wikipedia rules, and don't know what COI means. Thank you.

• Hi, I've been very diligent in removing unsourced and promotional content, and much of it, including unnecessary descriptions of a business, was promotional in tone. Wikpedia will not publish biographical content about living persons that has not been adequately sourced. Got it. I will be diligent in making sure to have only sourced content (though I am not sure how to provide a source for where I was born or attended high school). Again, I am not trying to be difficult -- I am just looking to have complete facts, as the current description misses a ton of content. I am sure you'd feel the same way if someone posted an article on you. Thank you for your help.

• And my apologies for the hard warnings at your talk page; I'll moderate them. Jonfvein, there is a Wikipedia article about me, written by others, to which I've made minor additions with good sources; I've edited here a long time, and am terrifically sensitive to WP:COI. Details of birth, schooling and youth are great, if they can be confirmed by objective sources, per WP:RELIABLE. If not, my take has always been that they're not important enough to merit encyclopedic inclusion. Please also understand that a Wikipedia bio is not a resume, which is why lists of professional positions or charitable affiliations are generally removed.
