Early life

  • link indigo? I'm not sure what an indigo plantation is, and I may not be the only one.
Linked to Indigo dye - Dumelow (talk) 23:23, 10 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Zululand

  • ...made a Zulu chief by King Cetshwayo: suggest "made a chief by Cetshwayo, the king of the Zulus."
Done - Dumelow (talk) 23:23, 10 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • ...Zulu Inkosi: as per the comment in the lead, suggest a bracketed English-translation for Inkosi
Done - Dumelow (talk) 23:23, 10 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • In 1883 he married Mollie Mullins.: don't suppose there is any context to who Mullins was? Daughter of settlers or an Anglo official?
Added a little more I found on her - Dumelow (talk) 23:23, 10 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

  • at one point having a horse shot from under him.: any more context on this or his duties with the police?
Nothing in the current sources. I've since discovered there was a biography of him published in 1961 and have ordered a copy so possibly room for future expansion of the article - Dumelow (talk) 23:23, 10 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • the rank of Captain: lower case for captain in this usage, also link

  • 5 Boers: elsewhere in this section, small numbers are written out.

Later life

  • I see he remarries twice in this section, any context on his wives, particularly the fate of Nunn?
managed to find a new source that covers a bit more on his wives and expanded this a little - Dumelow (talk) 23:23, 10 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

References

  • Is ref 14 a self-piublished source? Otherwise generally look OK and most are pretty modern which I think will be important here.
Yep, I missed that. He comes up with some military history credentials but I've replaced this - Dumelow (talk) 23:23, 10 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Ref 1: Natural or National? Same applies to ref 7
Weird! Fixed - Dumelow (talk) 07:16, 11 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • I note ref 3 needs an endash in the date range. Ditto refs 10 and 12

  • Some book sources are missing place of publication
Got all these. I've tried to track down the actual journal article in "African Review" but no luck so far - Dumelow (talk) 07:16, 11 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

That's it for me, placing on hold. Cheers, Zawed (talk) 21:39, 10 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Thanks Zawed. I think I've addressed most things above, my internets a bit flaky at the moment so I'll leave it there for now and try to address the remainder in the morning - Dumelow (talk) 23:28, 10 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
Hi Zawed, think that's everything now. I've added some new content sou would be glad of a quick review of that if you can. Many thanks - Dumelow (talk) 07:16, 11 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
So sorry, while searching for photographs I found a few tidbits from contemporary newspapers, including coverage of a fraud trial that I've incorporated. Wary of relying too much on contemporary sources but I think it was worth including. I'd appreciate your review of this - Dumelow (talk) 10:29, 11 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
I made a few tweaks but otherwise looks all in order so am passing as GA. Merry Xmas! Zawed (talk) 09:55, 24 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
