Based on Markus Pierson's "Coyote" series?
I recall there was a controversy in which artist Markus Pierson, who IIRC lived in the same building as the artist who drew the original Joe Camel, tried to claim that Joe Camel was a derivative work of his Coyote character. In his statement on gallery page he discusses Camel a little. I feel that after the story can be tracked down and verified it would merit a new section. A blog contains "Markus Pierson, the visual artist who sued RJ Reynolds for copyright infringement, claiming that “Joe Camel” was based on his Coyote Series and his work with the American Cancer Society." 136.63.45.89 (talk) 00:59, 31 July 2016 (UTC)
