Calton has removed the names of the various characters Patric has played in movies. I think this is useful information and should be restored. Any thoughts? Everyking 04:37, 4 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Well, as the Ashlee Simpson debacle demonstrated, EverK, your notions of "useful information" is frequently at odds with consensus.

Some general points:

  • "Played [CHARACTER] in [MOVIE TITLE]" is not a standard listing format, here or anywhere else I'm familiar with.
  • Few of the character names constitute relevant information, with the obvious exception of Jim Bowie, being a historic character. Certainly none except Bowie have links (though perhaps one should, but I'll reveal that one later).
Here's a test. Below are the names of characters (with hint info removed) from the filmography and the film titles. Each list has been put into alphabetical order. Can you match them without looking up the information? I'll bet you get three, four at most. If you can't immediately associate the character names with the film (like, say, Harry Lime) or require the names to make the association (like, say, the actor who played Emperor Palpatine in Star Wars), why have them?
  • Alex Shaw
  • Cary
  • Harry Donovan
  • Jim Bowie
  • Jim Raynor
  • Konstantin Koverchenko
  • Lorenzo Carcaterra
  • Michael Emerson
  • Nick Tellis
  • The Beast
  • Incognito (1997)
  • Narc (2002)
  • Rush (1991)
  • Sleepers (1996)
  • Speed 2: Cruise Control (1997)
  • The Alamo (2004)
  • The Lost Boys (1987)
  • Your Friends and Neighbors (1998)

Calton, don't you ever get bored with the insults? I'm not going to restore the information, but I am certainly in favor of it if anyone else wants to do so. Everyking 05:10, 4 Feb 2005 (UTC)

That cast list is mixed up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.219.207.41 (talk) 14:14, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Name at birth

Jason Miller was born as John Anthony Miller. Therefore his son was named John Anthony Miller, Jr. not Jason Patric(k) Miller, Jr. There was no Jason Patric (Sr.) in 1966. Rms125a@hotmail.com (talk) 16:10, 20 November 2009 (UTC)

Rv to birthname as above -- reflink cited ".... Patric (his given name is Jason Patric Miller Jr.)" does not make sense and is not dispositive. If he was Jr., he had to be John Anthony Miller, Jr. as his father's real name was John Anthony Miller. Especially since we do not yet (I am checking) in what year his father changed his name. If the father hadn't changed it by 1966, he could not have named his son "Jason Patric(k) Miller, Jr." Given that Miller, Sr. (the playwright) was "launched into stardom in 1973", it's unlikely he would have changed his name eight years or more earlier.
