I remember reading on the Outpost Gallifrey forums a while back that apparently RTD or another member of the production staff had intended Jake to be in love with Ricky Smith but this was dropped for time, according to a statement or an interview of some sore. Does anyone know if this is just rumour or is such a statement or comment was ever made? GracieLizzie21:46, 8 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
I'm sure there was a link on Wikipedia to an article on gay.com or something like that, where Hayden-Smith says that it was Davies' original intention. Zythe01:12, 9 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
Dropped nothing, it's obvious to anyone with eyes. The boy's got it bad for Ricky. :P
Well I did see elements of it in Age of Steel, and this was before I read about it on OG or knew Andrew Hayden-Smith was gay, but I don't know if I'd say it was obvious. My Dad didn't pick up on it. GracieLizzie11:56, 11 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
According to the DWM special covering the second season, one of the cuts (not sure if it was at script or post production stage) was lines where Jake states Ricky was his boyfriend. Timrollpickering11:24, 16 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Should Jake be included in the LGBT category, since he's "supposed to be" gay, but having only been "hinted" as such. I mean, if in T. Davies' and Hayden-Smith's minds, the character is gay, but he never says so on screen, does it warrant inclusion? Zythe17:19, 14 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
I would say no, because there's no on-screen confirmation, and the "hints" are not particularly obvious and noticeable only if you squint a bit. They become much clearer once you know that he's meant to be gay, but taken as is, it's not confirmed. --khaosworks (talk • contribs) 17:29, 14 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
What about with that DVD detail I just noticed added on? Even if he's not confirmed as such in the mainstream continuity, would it not be of interest to someone looking in the category, with details obviously included in the article? Technically in the deleted scenes he is an LGBT character. ~ZytheTalk to me!22:44, 1 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
