Wow! wonderful article, but much too long.
- First task, extract (sub)labels.
  - Expected to do cleanup in 15mn flat by simple extract/create.
  - No way. The first label (Sue) already exists and had problems with Island (which was only a distributor).
  - Now the situation is a more complex extract/duplicate or extract/merge.

I recommend to go in 2 steps:
- First step
  - extract all derived labels
  - Group all written commentaries at the top with the links to the following lists of records organised by decades as it is today.

This give a much more readable article (even if very long).

- - The most interesting part of article is to contain all Island references in 1 article.Then it becomes very easy to look for a record reference by simple ctrl-F.

Now if the article is broken up in several article(say by years) it looses quite a lot of its interest.

- second step: have a look at the result and go from here.

Fair use image removal edit

I have removed all or a majority of the fair use images on this page as their use was not in line with our Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria policy (likely in that the use is not minimal (3.a.) and it is in a list or a gallery (8.)) or our Wikipedia:Non-free content guideline that states that cover images may only be used for critical commentary on the cover itself, not just identification. As I'm the person who started this page I think a discography is helpful with images. If you want to defend Wiki guidelines please identify yourself with a user page to have a better discussion. I change the page again. --Reinhard P. Braun 05:16, 8 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

You see that first post in this section? That is me trying to discuss this. Your two posts talk about the lack of discussion, and yet you do not participate in the discussion--but in a meta discussion about there not being discussion. Why do the artists nor the albums link to their Wiki pages (where they exist)? If someone comes here, presumably they are a fan and would want to follow through? ALso, on the Island_Records page there is a "Selected Discography" of the most collectable "pink" label issues. I suggest (as I will suggest there) that these be merged into here, and I'll do it over the weekend if no-one objects. --Rodhullandemu 22:44, 6 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

As I've compiled most of the content, it was a question of time not to create all the links possible, they would be very welcome!

I have now fixed the Island records main page & removed the "Selected Discography"; but for a couple of issues it was duplicated here. If anyone's going to be working on it in parallel, could you put the "inuse" tag on the section you're working on so we don't get edit conflicts? hi, you guys are well underway, great ! ... but what about the American IS 7" series ? i know they all seem to be duplicates from the UK issues but i can assure at least the Lee Perry produced ones all have complete different/longer mixes from their UK counterparts ... also missing the US CID compact discs ... and where are the Mango 7s and LP's ?

If you have the information, so add them. As I'm living in Europe I don't know much about US releases. Mango is an interesting label. When CDs came on the market, a numebr of US releases (reggae, Carribean and African music only) were distributed here in Europe with prefixes CCD (for CDs) (I've seen a list where K7s had the prefix MLPS (???). The numbers followed - for records originally released until ca. early 1980s - the UK-Island numbers, but then continued at 9xxx with a continuous numbering independently. I'll search for my old list. Mango in the UK started in 1985 as far as I see - using the Island numbering (e.g. 12": Third World: "Now That We've Found love" released in one mix on the Island label and in another one on a Mango label, later they released new material with prefixes CIDM and numbers from 1000 onwards.

... There are also 4th&B'way and Antilles as two more mayor sub labels ...

Removed this: That's not to say that Island had lost the plot, but it might fairly be said that but for U2 and the nostalgia market, they could have slipped from public notice. - Can't say this can be true in the slightest. Looking at 1980 onwards we have Marianne Faithfull, Grace Jones, Steve Winwood, Robert Palmer, NIN, Paul Weller, Pulp, PJ Harvery, The Cranberries, all well known acts.

Removed this: This was a shrewd move, since by then, the purchasers of those original vinyl albums had become both nostalgic and affluent.- Not very encyclopedic. True most of us get more nostalgic when we get older but I cringe at a lot of the stuff I listened to as a kid. And what has age got to do with how much money you have?
