Ferrous Ion

edit

PubChem names Iron(II) as Ferrous Ion. https://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/compound/Ferrous-ion

I had noted this but the edit was reverted by a veteran editor as Iron(II) is more widely used. Indeed it is mentioned in passing as "ferrous chloride" is given as an example where ferrous is still widely used. IMO, "ferrous ion" should be stated within the first few sentences with reference to PubChem.

A reason for further consideration: many, many papers incorrectly refer to Iron(II) as "ferrous iron" rather than "ferrous ion"; this platform can help SloppyTots (talk) 10:15, 27 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
