Create a list of influencers who get convicted of illegal things edit

Activities that later turn out to be illegal, dishonest, or just plain failures are a regular occurrence in the Influencer culture. While those activities are detailed on individual influencer pages, there appears to be no list of them, as there are lists of Hollywood failures or Cryptocurrency bubble or con artists. The cryptocurrency bubble page is probably the most applicable model of the three. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.9.226.243 (talk) 15:59, 17 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

All about the money edit

Hello, this article is over 50% about advertising. There's very little about what internet celebrities actually get famous for. --179.26.147.196 (talk) 14:17, 11 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

What are the requirements for an internet celebrity to have an article of their own? edit

Please direct me if there is a better place to ask this, but I am wondering if it is appropriate to create articles for online creators that have millions of followers/significant achievements online. I know a lot of these get rejected, perhaps for lacking the significance to warrant an article, lacking references, or appearing as advertisement. Is there a page that lists the criteria for a person to have an article of this sort and what that page must include? I'm sure this is a common issue/feature of Wikipedia that is taken advantage of. "Influencer" leads here? edit

Why does "influencer" lead here? Didn't influencers exist before the Internet?

This came up when I wanted to refer to Al Gore as an influencer, which he is by virtue of being a former US VP and one of the best known exponents of the theory of anthropogenic global warming. A link to Wikipedia would have been ideal except for the fact that Gore's influence did not arise through the Internet.

There is the further point that Internet influencers are rarely if ever crucified, literally or metaphorically, for their influence in marketing, unlike influencers seeking to sway public opinion on more controversial questions than which soap is best. Besides Gore, one can name Joan of Arc, Galileo, etc.

If "influencer" is the wrong term for such people, is there a more appropriate term? Vaughan Pratt (talk) 18:40, 13 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

There is likely a new implication of "influencer" when it comes to social media, as compared to pre-social media. That is, the full term is likely "social media influencer" to describe the realm they work from as to separate them from activists that use regular media or other means to get their message out. However, in popular media reporting "influencer" nowadays nearly always is the social media influencer-type, and we really don't have a good target for the other type (outside of activist perhaps.) --Masem (t) 18:59, 13 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Article Needs Major Overhaul edit

in my opiniom, this article needs review by someone more skilled than me in wiki's best practices for an edit of the scope I think this article would require. the focus of the content frequently shifts away from the focus of the article section, it's not written in the correct tone for an encyclopedic article, and it contains many sections of information that should be referring to other articles or removed completly since it's more appropriate to another page (for an example see the section called "cancel culture"). in addition, much of the information seems incomplete or unreliable. references need work, as indicated in another talk discussion below.
