where does the inland part come from?

I'm from outside the UK, so I don't understand where the "inland" part of the name comes from. What is the alternative to Inland? Is there a department of Distant Islands Revenue? Do they assess taxes differently elsewhere? --199.90.157.4 (talk) 13:40, 15 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
