Protection

I've applied full protection for a week because it seems that editors are not striving to achieve consensus here. I do this reluctantly because at present the article is overloaded with the Michael Jackson incident, and I suspect there is more to the subject than this. However, edit-warring is to be deprecated. Any editor wishing to add or remove material in the meantime may do so by using the {{editprotected}} request. --Rodhullandemu 17:35, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

Yep, I agree it's slightly undue, we could cut the details into 1 reasonably sized paragraph instead of the current 2 paragraphs. It's not so much "overloaded", the Jackson details need a slight trim and other aspects of this individual need to be introduced. The guy is notable for other things too, I suggest that people find other things (not related to Michael Jackson) that we can add, to broaden the coverage. — Realist2 17:47, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
Here are some links that may help: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/celebritynews/3899401/Michael-Jackson-needs-lung-transplant.html and http://www.usmagazine.com/news/michael-jackson-is-in-good-health. The article's subject has contacted the WMF so I will be keeping an eye on this. John Reaves 21:01, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
I'm not sure what is being played out in the media. I suspect that certain sections of the tabloid press deliberately misquoted the author as justification to write this stupid "Michael Jackson is dying" piece, then more respectable media repeated the story. When the public didn't buy it, the press probably turned on Halperin, using him as a scapegoat. — Realist2 21:09, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

Should we mention Jackson's upcoming concerts and recent press conference. There is absolutely no way in hell AEG Live would allow him to perform if he were half blind and unable to speak, they have a multi billion dollar reputation to uphold. The recent press conference proves this guy has got his "facts" wrong. — R2 20:08, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

I have added it, since it's a direct follow up on the statement made by Jackson's representatives all those months ago. — R2 20:18, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
More sourced material should be added on other aspects of this individual's life - at the moment this big section is undue weight and focusing on this one incident which occurred relatively recently. Cirt (talk) 22:32, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
I removed the information from the lead, which is a good start. I think we all agree that other information needs discussing. When/if this book on Jackson is released, I have a feeling all hell with break lose. Jackson will most certainly sue if the book contains more claims of this nature. We should probably try to fix the article before it becomes a high traffic article. I see you've been working on Hollywood Undercover, why not bring a summary of it over here? — R2 23:55, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
Probably most of his other books should be discussed. Cirt (talk) 00:07, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
Agree, it's probably best to work on the books first, and bring snippets (about a paragraph per book) over here. — R2 00:09, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
Agreed, I will start working on that. Cirt (talk) 00:10, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
Credible info removed::::

Can we protect this page, it used to contain some accurate information about the credibility of Halperin, which credibly dismissed him as a fraud over lying about his Rolling stone awards. I think the man changed it himself, he's known to do this sort of thing. Change it back?! It was fully cited I think. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.194.21.79 (talk) 11:33, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

It was moved down into a subsection of its own. Cirt (talk) 11:38, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
I think moving it out of the lead was appropriate. — R2 12:52, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

Upcoming MJ book

Is there a release date for this MJ book yet? Surely he'll try and capitalize on the upcoming concerts. Haven't heard much about it recently, other than it's in the works. — R2 13:03, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

Presumably there could be a listing on Amazon.com if it is planned to be released soon, or perhaps a mention in secondary sources - has anyone come across either of these yet? Cirt (talk) 13:05, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

He's still talking about Michael Jackson, claims Jackson earnt 200-300 million for the upcoming concerts. Where is he getting such info from I wounder? No way is he still close to Jackson's inner circle, if he ever was that is. — R2 20:27, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

It would not be appropriate to guess about these things on the talk page of an article where we should be discussing improving the article itself, but it certainly is interesting stuff to wonder where investigative journalists get their sources. Cirt (talk) 23:38, 14 April 2009 (UTC)

Doing a bit of cleanup work, then will do some additional research for expansion. Cirt (talk) 07:57, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Six months

...Montreal author Ian Halperin. He made headlines late last year and early this year when in Britain's The Sun, then in the U.S. weekly In Touch, he predicted that Mr. Jackson would be dead within six months.

Jail time/false claims

Can someone add some info about his falsely claiming to have won an award from Rolling Stone for Investigative Journalism? I also think something about his jail time should be added:

'Ian is no stranger to writing questionable and unsubstantiated material, and has been doing so since the 1980s when he was still a student reporter. In 1984, an athletic director at his college filed a $100,000 libel suit against him and another writer for making multiple allegations of improper conduct within the university's athletic department. Ian was later criminally charged with providing false testimony and lying under oath in the civil case after three different sources denied providing him with any of the information he claimed they had. Ian fled Canada to avoid criminal prosecution and remained in Great Britain for 2.5 years before returning to face the court. In 1990, the judge in the case said he was forced to close it due to a lack of corroborating evidence presented by the prosecution, although Ian did serve time in jail for fleeing the country.' —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.96.164.240 (talk) 15:43, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Citations

So what's the deal, Cirt? Are you the final authority on how this article should be cited? Is every citation in the article, on some chosen date, set in freaking stone, whether redundant or not? WillOakland (talk) 00:16, 27 September 2009 (UTC)

Opie and Anthony

In a recent interview with opie and anthony, Ian challenged comedian Jim Jeffries to feel his penis, but when Jim accepted the request, Ian retorted by saying "youre not gonna touch 'His Highness' crotch" Also, Later in the interview he claimed that Jim Jeffries had been doing the same jokes for 20 years, even though he had only been doing stand up for 10 years. In addition to that, He went on to threaten another comedian, Kurt Metzger, by challenging him to a fight and claiming he had three martial arts black belts, but when challenged to show a karate move, he refused, claiming he was a non-violent person, even though he initiated the confrontation by claiming "I'm gonna clock this guy."
