ISO issued 50 three-letter codes for the Moldova divisions in place in 1998. It issued new two-letter codes in 2002 for 13 subdivisions (10 counties, 1 city, 1 autonomous territory and 1 territorial unit). (ISO newsletters 1-2, 1-3 and 1-4). These are the codes listed in the second section, excepting that the ISO code list includes both a city named Chişinău (code CU) and a county named Chişinău (code CH) and this list omits the former. Additionally, newsletter 1-4 added a code TA for Taraclia county or district, which is also omitted here.

According to the "Counties of Moldava" page at Statoids.com, "In March, 2003, Moldova underwent another reorganization." Statoids says further that "Moldova is divided into 32 raioane (sing. raion: districts), three municipiu (city), one unitate teritorială autonomă (autonomous territory), and one unitatea teritorială (territorial unit)."

The Wikipedia page Administrative divisions of Moldova reports something similar, to wit: "Moldova is divided into 32 raions, or raioane, 3 municipalities (Chişinău, Bălţi, and Tighina/Bender)[1], one (non-contiguous) autonomous territorial unit (Gagauzia), and the breakaway region of Transnistria, the status of which is disputed." It then lists the districts and also describes the earlier administrative subdivisions in effect before 2003.

But this page lists 42 subdivisions. These are not from the ISO, at least not from the database you can buy from the ISO (updated through Dec 2006) nor from any newsletter that I can locate.

Statoids indicates that Moldova uses 4-digit postal codes. It further provides two-digit codes used by "CUATM2003, a Moldovan statistics standard" ([Statistica Moldova web site]) for all but one of the 32 subdivisions. So these are not postal codes nor governmental statistical codes.

Since these "Codes for actual subdivisions" are not codes the ISO has released officially, and if they are in fact codes that reflect some subdivision structure of Moldova, I believe they should appear on a differently named page and at most a link to that page should be put here.

If these codes purport to be preliminary codes proposed by ISO, then they should be so noted.
