I'd like someone to back up the following claim : "For a large and developed company it has many power outages, as any small amount of wind knocks people offline for several days in rural and urban areas."

You need either data to prove this point or a source. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Blackhound70 (talkcontribs)

R v. Hydro Quebec

Why isn't there any mention of R v. Hydro Quebec, [1997] 3 S.C.R. 213 on this page? A puzzling omission, since it was a very important case, and a defining part of Hydro Quebec's history. Is this because Hydro Quebec is predatorially editing this page to efface its image? Almost all the links (including the laughable 'history' of Hydro Quebec link) are directly to the company page. This looks a lot like an advertisement. . .

Just a question. Sigma-6 16:20, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Hydro quebec.png

Image:Hydro quebec.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 00:32, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Translation of Hydro-Québec

I'm currently translating fr:Hydro-Québec in order to replace this stub, which has a GA label. It's a pretty long article, but I expect to be done with it sometime this week. I'll keep you posted. Bouchecl (talk) 01:44, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Done Hope you'll like it. Bouchecl (talk) 04:10, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

This content seems negatively biased

The current version of this page looks very much like a pamphlet against the subject of the article. For example, review the sentence "As of 2009, Hydro-Quebec's renewable portfolio (other than hydro which is a renewable power source) is less than 0.01%". This shows heavy bias, as hydraulic electricity production is 92% of Hydro-Quebec's production as can be seen on a pie chart on the French article on the same subject (which seems much more factual and is written in a tone that is more appropriate for encyclopedic content). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Eplante (talkcontribs) 22:22, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Don't worry, a much better version of the article is coming up later today or tomorrow... Bouchecl (talk) 23:08, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Congrats!

Congrats to Bouchecl, who successfully translated the French-language good article into English. This article needed that kind of information and deserve it. Again, congrats! Sincerely, Jimmy Lavoietalk 00:11, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

copyedit

As you've noticed, I've started copyediting the article. This will probably take a few days due to its length. (You might consider splitting the history into a separate article.) Magic♪piano 14:09, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Thank you very much for your help. As far as splitting, yes, you're probably right. I had to do so in fr, but it's still quite long. How much should I cut? A third? Half? Thanks again for your help. Bouchecl (talk) 14:13, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
Done. I've split the History section of this article to History of Hydro-Québec, 30 minutes ago. I'll try to shorten the section during the weekend. Bouchecl (talk) 17:31, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

“Crown corporation”

I'm wondering... As "Crown corporation" usually means "Corporation owned by the Government of Canada", as Canada still has "links" with England (so with the Queen), shouldn't we use for corporation owned by the Government of Québec the neutral form "Government-owned corporation" or "State-owned corporation" (the English-language equivalent of "Société d'État")? Sincerely, Jimmytalk 02:07, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

Strictly speaking, Canada have no specific link with England (beside some institution such as commonwealth). However, the Queen Elizabeth II is the Queen of Canada. If you look at the title of the Queen, you will see something like: Elizabeth II, Queen of England, Australia, Canada.... --JYL.CA (talk) 05:31, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

As far as I can tell, Yes

3. The article has a defined structure.

Yes

Appears so, yes

6. The article presents its content in an appropriately accessible way.

I think so, yes

As a result, the article has been rated "B" class for WPCANADA. PKT(alk) 17:17, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Dubious

The statement "Power which is bought from Newfoundland for a quarter of a cent per kilowatt hour is then re-sold by Hydro-Quebec for up to 36 times the price Quebeckers pay for it" doesn't make any sense.

Assuming the unnamed study (which study?) is right, it would mean

  1. that power from Churchill Falls costs nothing to transmit and distribute to the Quebec market and;
  2. that Quebecers pay 9¢/kWh (36 times 0.25¢), which is disproved later in the article, since they pay 5.45¢/kWh for the first 30kWh/day and 7.46¢/kWh for the remainder of their consumption.

This paragraph should be rewritten or removed. Bouchecl (talk) 04:24, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

Precision about HQ exportation to USA/Vermont

"Exports from Hydro-Québec account for 28% of all power used in the state".

I think should be replaced by: Exports from Hydro-Québec account for 28% of all power used in the state of Vermont.

I have read the original statement several times. I don't know if that have to do with the formatting on my screen, but it looked like a new paragraph. Consequently, the reference to the state of vermont was not obvious to me. --JYL.CA (talk) 05:29, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Done Thanks for spotting this. Rather than do what you suggested, I moved the sentence up so it should clear up any confusion. Bouchecl (talk) 11:55, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Suggested merge: History of Hydro-Québec and Hydro-Québec

I've seen Cwenger merge proposal of the two above-mentioned articles. However History of Hydro-Québec is itself a longer version of Hydro-Québec's history section. At 148K, Hydro-Québec is way too long and should be shortened. Bouchecl (talk) 15:55, 25 June 2010 (UTC)

I'm currently moving stuff from the History section of this article to History of Hydro-Québec in order to shorten this article. Bouchecl (talk) 15:17, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

Hydro-Québec spelling

I undid revisions which removed the accent on the name of the company. The name of the company is always spelled with an accent in the company documentation and website, in legislation (RSQ, chap H-5, s. 3), in regulatory documents filed with the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and in NERC documents. Update to 2016

This is a good article. Structure's good and the editing is good. Obviously a lot of work was done on it by Bouchecl et al. I think the article would improve with an update/modernisation as follows:

  • Needs a different first image. Looking at the article on an iPhone or other mobile device, the top picture is of Montreal Light, Heat and Power linemen.
  • Update to 2016 facts & content. A lot of the info is pretty old, dating back to 2011 or earlier.
  • Some of the prose hasn't aged well e.g. " Hydro-Québec announced in early 2009 at the Montreal International Auto Show that its engine had been chosen by Tata Motors to equip a demonstration version of its Indica model, which will be road tested in Norway". Also the dates are a little to find-grained, in retrospect e.g. "the company's 2009-2013 strategic plan, released on July 30, 2009" - does it really matter what day of July it was? Is the precise date of release even relevant at all, almost seven years later?
  • Use a more conventional WP style of referencing, i.e. direct refs to web pages rather than a lengthy list of books and articles.
  • Per WP:LENGTH the article is too long. A rule of thumb for article readability is one quarter of the current size of 160,487 bytes. This could be done by without WP:REMOVAL by:

The Investments section describes plans for new transmission to Deerfield, New Hampshire. These plans have been scuttled. Plans for a transmission line from Quebec through Maine should be mentioned. That project involves a US partner called New England Clean Energy Connect, which just recently won a court case in Maine allowing construction to proceed.
