I'd like to create a second archive of this page. This talk page is meandering (which is ok), but I think there are some structural issues for this article which might require a cleaner discussion page. Who are these people who still don't use edit summaries to explain their deletions? They are very selective in what passages are to be deleted, and they are the same ones. So it's likely a repeat user who uses different IP addresses based on these edits.

But because these controversial statements are not sourced with verifiable sources, it would be fair to remove them after a while. I will add {{fact}} tags to them to show that they should be sourced. If after 4 weeks I don't find the {{fact}} tags replaced with references, I will remove the passages, not anonymous editors who don't use edit summaries. I don't want to encourage WP:BEANS once the {{fact}} tags come up.

If there is something to strive for with HCHS, it is to make this a featured article. Not one to bring up rivalries, but Stuyvesant High School is a featured article. So let's work to improve this article. And I would like other editors to help along, most preferably long-standing registered users.

The glaring thing I see is the "School events" and "School culture" sections (which I saved from deletion, but had to be dealt with) should be cleaned up, checked for notability issues, and de-bulletized. I will work on the section in the next few days. Tinlinkin 06:06, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

The deadline for including the passages is set for the evening of October 4, next Wednesday. Since there has been no comment to my above post, I believe there has been no opposition, apart from 68.161.107.196, and I would like help in enforcing it. I am rewriting the "School events" section right now, the battleground for deletions. Now looking at the content, there is another justification for the removal of anything: non-notability. This rewrite will not only affect the above, but also other passages that are not notable or are common with other high schools. Note that this is my justification for removal. Some photos maybe?

Does anyone else think that maybe we should get some photos of the school building, both inside and outside? It would be nice if we could get some photos of previous buildings for the History section.--Anakata 23:08, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

Why not? I took some pics of the school when I attended about 10 years ago, but they're up in my attic somewhere and it's too inconvenient for me to get them. But a few good pics of the school today (i.e. the 94th St. entrance, view of the courtyard, Madison Av. facade, and an interior shot) would be at the very least appropriate. School events changes

Here is a summary of my major changes:

• Some of the information that was consistently deleted I have decided should not be included in the article.
  • this edit: The alcohol and marijuana incident in 1999 is not notable because the Spirit Day still occurred in subsequent years.
  • this edit: MORP is not notable. An "underground dance" is always permissible at any time, only the school doesn't sponsor it.
  • this edit: Killer, according to that article, is played on HS and college campuses around the world, and is not sponsored by schools. To point out that HCHS participates in it does make it sound that it is an important part of HCHS culture, when it certainly isn't. I understand now the role perception plays in this.
• Also, this edit: A student government officer listing is unencyclopedic and non-notable
• This information is still included, but with a {{fact}} tag and an October 4 deadline to include references:
  • this edit The 2000 Senior Walkout beating: Notability is similar to the 1999 Spirit Day incident, (Walkout still occurs) but because someone was hospitalized, and apparently with guards looking on, this would be a more notable and controversial incident to include. This can be deleted without prejudice, but only with consensus and explanation in the edit summary.

As I have reversed my position on many of the deletion-wars materials, other users are entitled to put them back. But I am now inclined to defend the deletions per the above. I hope there is consensus on this. I do not like to "own" an article, but if I want to strive for featured article status, I had to do what I had to do. Tinlinkin 09:25, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Well, October 4 came and went, and a user deleted the Senior Walkout passage and I did not revert it. So it will stay that way. Next upcoming job (which I'm not doing now), fix the 2006 Annals paragraph. Tinlinkin 07:42, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

By your criteria, what is the Annals 2006 paragraph doing, sparkling there as its own little chapter. The suit did not go forward, Annals still exists, and news publication is hardly newsworthy given that it is Hunter High School. Or is that what you meant by fixing it?... I'm not sure I agree with your take on killer... a good percentage of the student body (upper termers in particular) participate every year. The school thinks it is important enough to send out multiple mailings every year dealing exclusively with the game. Talking with kids from other high schhols in NY shows that it is very unique to HCHS, at least in the city. I'd say it's a pretty significant part of Hunter student culture, and deserves a place in the entry. 72.229.168.75 22:07, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Killer may be unique to New York City, but I was comapring with other schools as stated in that article itself: "a game commonly played on college campuses and among high school communities". If you feel it's important to add, source it in regards to Hunter, aside from the earlier link as a source. As I said above, the topic was repeatedly deleted before I made the decision to let it remain that way. In addition, this topic and the "student hangouts" section may be school fancruft. Whoever wrote this article is the dumbest mo-fo s**t ever! Hunter rocks and all the cool stuff about i isn't even there! I want to know who is the dumba** who wrote this mo-fo s**t about my school! That mo-fo w***e! I'm gonna beat the mo-fo crap out of that guy! They don't mention anything about all the cool events that happens there and all the great minds being produced there. This is an insult and I am really pissed off!

Hey, I'm not happy with the current state of this article either. But this is an encyclopedia, and original research should be avoided, and that could mean "the cool events that happens there" would be deleted if not written well. Just be bold and edit it. Assessment as of March 2007

Hello all, and thank you for contributing to this school site. I'm part of the Wikipedia:WikiProject_Schools/Assessment team, and, as requested, I'm reviewing this page. I'm currently giving it a grade of Start on the Wikipedia 1.0 Assessment Scale and an importance of Mid on this importance scale.

My reasoning is as follows: While there is a lot of good information here, most of it is uncited and only of local interest. It need to be condensed and some of it may need to be deleted (Most Notably the Alumni, events, and Culture Sections) Adam McCormick 05:42, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Haven't there been some recent surveys of public high schools that bestow some kind of special distinction on Hunter, or at least give it a very high ranking relative to other public and private high schools? I feel that I've tracked some of these down at other times, but they're kind of hard to find, and possibly in some cases subscription-protected. What I'd like to see is some more direct links to these articles, rather than indirect references, like the repeated link to the Cynthia Nixon article (which doesn't in itself support the content). Possible Additions

I'm not sure in which newspaper this is published, but in the begining of the year there is always a big chart that has a list of what colleges are attended by Hunter seniors. Maybe we could put this (or something like it) on the page? It seems like something the general public might want to know (and another way for us to show off our superior intelectual skills ;] ). Maybe you could include a brief summary (in the form of text in the article), but if you put some huge table/list in this article, all that you're going to do is add more clutter to an already bloated article. That informtion is highly localized, and not very interesting to a reader. BTW, great "intelectual" skills! Marky1991 (talk) 21:48, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Student Culture

I really don't think that section is necessary. Hang-out spots aren't important in an encyclopedia entry for a school. True, it might be an important part of the social life at Hunter maybe? However, the article itself is not for that sole audience.
