Holorhyme or holorime? edit
Curious about why we'd title an English article about a word combining holo- and rhyme as holorime, I did a little research. Neither Merriam-Webster Online nor Cambridge Online Dictionaries seemed to accept either spelling as a legitimate word. A basic Google search (no language or other restrictions) yielded nearly 44k hits for holorhyme and nearly 10k for holorime, although that's hardly reliable given Internet spelling habits. A somewhat more useful source is Google Books search, which yielded 857 for holorhyme and 769 for holorime. I dug a bit further and found that most if not all of the top hits in English preferred holorhyme, while nearly all of the holorime usages I saw were either in French or used that spelling while quoting French text.
While this seems to suggest holorhyme would be the better title, none of this is particularly definitive, and certainly isn't the same as having reliable sources. I'll leave more thorough research for later (and possibly for others). ~ Jeff Q (talk)
- Or to put it more simply (ie. in plain English), why is the title of this article spelt wrongly? It's rather reminiscent of the schoolboy howler Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and TIME - which of course is another holorhyme (or should that be HOWLER rhyme). Seriously, it's a simple mis-spelling.
