Overlinking clarification

Dear @Michael Bednarek,
Reverting is a bit harsh, you could have been more specific as to why linking to Greeks and/or Greek language is considered overlinking, especially when the article is full of "overlinking" to other ethnicities. I take it that you meant not to discriminate, for you are an experienced and most prolific contributor.

I suppose that Kozani and Rumelia —the only links in the article containing references to Greece and/or the Greeks/the Greek language— already include some of the links added, and thus overlinking occurs. Isn't that the case with the following passage included in the current (12/9/2023) version of the article?:

Although traditional biographers ascribed a Slovak and Serbian or simply a Slavic origin to his mother, Karajan's family from the maternal side, through his grandfather who was born in the village of Mojstrana, Duchy of Carniola (today in Slovenia), was Slovene. Aromanian heritage has also been claimed. Through the Slovene line, Karajan was related to the Slovenian-Austrian composer Hugo Wolf. He also seems to have known some of Slovene language.

How come "Slovak and Serbian or simply a Slavic" and, even worse, "Mojstrana, Duchy of Carniola (today in Slovenia), was Slovene...Slovene language" is NOT overlinking?
Excuse my tone, but if you fail to provide me with a substantiated answer I shall have to remove the rest overlinking instances, just to be fair.

I recommend reading WP:OVERLINK. A link to Greeks or Greek language does not help someone to understand the article on Herbert von Karajan any better. Those are well-known terms and it is highly improbable that readers will click on those links for further information regarding Karajan. OTOH, readers who know what Kozani and Rumelia are would be extremely rare, so explanatory links are needed, despite the lack of relevance to Karajan's life. OK, I see what you mean. In fact, I suspected it to be the reason for the edit-revert, but wanted not to accept that a rule as such would mean having to arbitrarily decide whether —e.g.— the Slovenes are "unknown" enough to be linked or not —for example, most of the Europeans know the Slovenes, a fact I suppose does not hold for the majority of the US population... In any case, thank you for your precise explanation, for it also helped me understand why the same matter had came up elsewhere in the past. L'Orfeo^{Son io} 10:49, 9 December 2023 (UTC)
