hammer shape?

edit
The word is Latin, and means 'hammer'.

No argument there.

The malleus is a hammer-shaped small bone or ossicle of the middle ear

Doesn't look like the shape of a hammer to me. The description is wrong IMO. Does the name confuse shape and function? 59.112.56.214 19:12, 4 November 2006 (UTC) you are right it dose not look like a small hamer209.193.39.139 (talk) 16:20, 14 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Nevertheless, the word "malleus" is Latin for 'hammer'. Dieter Simon (talk) 22:35, 14 April 2008 (UTC)Reply
Definitely does not look like a hammer. Kind of silly. 71.212.115.188 (talk) 21:15, 7 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

"Malleus is an advanced version of ossicle?"

edit

I just removed the sentence 'Malleus is basically the advanced version of ossicle.', contributed by DubstepzZz, as it makes no sense to me as it stands. Is this referring to the malleus being the first element of the ossicles? Is it referring to the malleus being a derived form of the more primitive ossicles seen in fossil species? The intention is unclear and there is no associated link to make it clearer. Knight of the sorrowful countenance (talk) 14:50, 30 August 2015 (UTC)Reply
