Rewrite

While this company probably fulfills WP:CORP (being acquired by eBay), it's badly in need of a rewrite. As it stands, it looks as though an employee of Gumtree probably could have written the article as it cites many unreferenced stats and boasts to be "largest flatshare and job site and the UK's largest classifieds site overall according to Alexa." Sound spammy and adverty? I think so. We need to stay away from WP:OR and cite things where they can be cited, lest they be removed. Rockstar (T/C) 16:10, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Agreed. I'll have a go. Centrepull (talk) 06:41, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

2010 GumTree controversy

In 2010, people were conned in to voting for Wagner Carrilho (of X Factor fame), ads were posted on Gumtree with his voting number, people rang, thinking they were about to reply to the ad. http://www.metro.co.uk/tv/849008-x-factors-wagner-kept-in-by-phone-scam http://www.tvscoop.tv/2010/12/scammers-post-wagners-v.html —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.86.122.7 (talk) 00:17, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Avarto Loyalty Group

The background section included the phrase:

Gumtree is located on the A316 in Twickenham, South west London and is owned by the Avarto Loyalty Group. They are non-customer facing.

There was no citation and I can't find any reference to Gumtree being owned by this company on the web. The only address I can find for Gumtree is 5 New Street Square, London EC4A 3TW which I found on the Gumtree T&Cs: http://www.gumtree.com/disclaimer.html

So I've taken that sentence out -David F 84.43.89.17 (talk) 00:05, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Adult Gumtree

Should there be mention of when they removed adult classified? This led to www.adultgumtree.co.uk which has over 7000 members. Was there a reason they pulled out of the adult market - was it legislated against or is it a company policy? Might add additional interest to the article. I don't know how to add this or if I'm allowed to so over to someone who knows better! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.143.14.97 (talk) 00:50, 24 March 2012 (UTC)

Do you have a reference for when/why Gumtree removed the personal ads? http://www.adultgumtree.co.uk/ says "This site is not in anyway associated with Gumtree! It acts as a replacement for Gumtree Personal ads." and Gumtree just says "... no pornography, adult videos/DVDs or adult sex toys are allowed on Gumtree. We also do not accept ads offering prostitution/escort services." Ie currently there is no direct link between them. Mitch Ames (talk) 12:21, 24 March 2012 (UTC)
