Content discussion

edit

This is one of only two special articles on "Pet reptiles" in Wikipedia. This article was once merged with Green Iguana. However, it was decided that the true Encyclopedic content was in question. I, as the main contributing author (however, co-author), agreed. The article will be under review as it is decided if it has a place in Wikipedia.--Adio11 06:50, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Rewrite

edit

This article needs a complete rewrite. It is not a Wikipedia article by any definition, and I suggest it be deleted unless someone with the expertise can help it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.189.178.102 (talkcontribs) 04:00, 24 July 2007

In the future, please be kind enough to sign your comment, or it cannot be considered. At the moment it is being reviewed, but no one has the expertise to re-write it, thank you.--Adio11 00:36, 5 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
There's really no reason at all for this to be a standalone article, and when it's eventually rewritten I assume that whatever section of it is considered to be encyclopedic content will be reinserted into the main creature article. That doesn't excuse the not-signing, mind. Chris Cunningham 06:09, 6 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'll help with the rewrite, but I think it needs to be a team effort. There is plenty of good printed source material. The article does seem to weigh heavily on web sources.--Mike Searson 04:31, 1 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've pretty much done what I can, I can help more if needed. I always prefer the original editors to take charge of their changes, etc.--Mike Searson 14:10, 2 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

MERGE?

edit

I think the major elements from this article are present in the main article. I would not be against merging the two as I've worked on both and the primary author for the captivity article has also contributed to both. However, I don't want to do that right now for a few reasons. Here are my reccomendatins before doing it:

  • Green Iguana in captivity finishes going through text cleanup/rewrite
  • Green iguana in captivity makes use of more print sources as opposed to web based articles.
  • Green iguana in captivity gets promoted to GA status, or at the very least gets reviewed and the reviewer reccomends a merge.
  • That the size of the merged article is manageable.

I don't think this is unreasonable.

My ultimate goal is to get Green Iguana promoted to Featured Status. So I'd rather work on this article and improve it...then do the merge. Make sense?--Mike Searson 14:49, 4 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sounds great. Chris Cunningham 15:22, 4 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
I've actually merged essentials from the introduction and the complete diet section, so far.--Mike Searson 15:39, 4 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

This article is pretty much a word-for-word copy of information present in the main article. I don't think it so much needs to be merged as it is just unnecessary for this article to be here without any new information present. --Nukethwhls (talk) 19:59, 26 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Not exactly a copy. We had 2 parallel articles going, this one more like a "how-to guide". I deleted and rewrote much of it...this one could probably be deleted.--Mike - Μολὼν λαβέ 03:59, 28 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

De-tagged

edit

I've removed the remaining prescriptive comment and carried out some more copy-editing. I think this is good enough now that we can look ahead to getting it rated. Chris Cunningham (talk) 19:45, 20 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Good job, I went ahead and merged the bulk of it back into Green iguana. Check it over when you get a chance!--Mike Searson (talk) 21:15, 20 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
