Talk:Grains (agronomic)

Latest comment: 13 years ago by Desmanthus4food

I added a page called Grains (agronomic) because the existing Grain page is merely a disambiguation page. It automatically forwards to a page called Cereal. There are other Grains pages, including Grain (mass), Grain (cipher). I am merely clarifying that there is a valid agronomic use of the term Grains, and it is not "cereal."

To make this page more consistent with Grain (mass), Grain (cipher), Film grain and Wood grain, I am prepared to delete this page and re-create it as Food Grain.

As noted on the Cereal page, Cereals are a subcategory of grains. Not all grains are cereals. Cereals are explicitly members of the grass family. For example, many foods are described as "multi-grain" not "multi-cereal". This is because multi-grain foods often contain grain from plants that are not grasses. Flaxseed, buckwheat and amaranth are familiar examples of a grain (often included in multigrain products) that are not from the grass family.
