I have restored the earlier entry which more accurately describes what the Society is about. In reality, the Society "owners" syphon off the best submissions from the Society's journal All Hallows for their own publications, which IS a conflict of interest. As they also refuse to allow members the right to a democratic vote i.e. over policy or leadership, then the society is clearly not a conventional one. It is more correctly a fan club.

Recommend locking this article with balancing comments to avoid continued vandalism by the Roden's friend Deor. 18 Dec 2006. Clearly the GSS is not a conventional society; societies are popularly known for being democratic organisations owned by the memebrs i.e. building societies. A society where the members cannot vote is not a society in the conventional sense.

Definition 4 of society in the Compact Oxford English Dictionary is "an organization or club formed for a particular purpose or activity." The Ghost Story Society appears to satisfy this definition. The original article consisted of a factual description of the society's journal; it may need correction or expansion, but it doesn't need "balance," since it contained no POV material at all. Request for opinions

If any other editors are watching this page, I wonder if they'd care to help me with two points:

1. Does the final sentence of this article, as of the 00:14, 19 December 2006 edit, constitute a violation of NPOV policy? It seems to me to be unverifiable, as well as being (like the sentence before it) a non sequitur.

2. Mightn't this article, in any event, be a candidate for AfD on the grounds of nonnotability? I'm a new editor and unsure of the exact application of the notability guideline, but no other pages link to this article, which seems to be one of the criteria. Deor 00:24, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

Re PROD

Having looked around WP, I can't see that this article is much different from articles for similar literary societies—The Mythopoeic Society, The Tolkien Society, the Science Fiction Poetry Association, etc. The article certainly needs to be expanded some, with a paragraph about the society itself as well as the one about its journal, and I'll try to do so as soon as I have time. It's never going to be a long article, but I think notability can be established. For now, I've deleted the PROD tag and slapped a stub tag on it. Deor 01:21, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
