Fully protected

This page has now been fully protected against editing due to repeated posting of potentially defamatory and non-encyclopedic text. Please read Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons and Wikipedia:Libel to understand why this is so wrong. Furthermore, creating sock-puppet accounts to constantly push this is against policy.

I really dislike doing this, but see no option at this point. From the page logs, I see that this has been going on for months now.

Anyone wishing to dispute this protection can either request unprotection at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection where I will ensure another administrator reviews the situation, or bring the matter up at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents.

Scandals and Controversy Removal

This one small incident that had happened and isnt wikipedia worthy. I can think of a few MAJOR incidents that happened in flatbush and other neighborhoods that aren't in their respective articles.

OK, maybe, but I still think that if the section can be expanded on and shows a clear pattern of behavior amongst SOME neighborhood residents, it is article-worthy. Honestly, the Volunteer fire department is a minor item, too, but when talking about the history of most neighborhoods, the details are minor in the big picture.--Prk6 02:03, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Just added some additional incidents which indicate a pattern of behavior. Since there are no other sections of the article which show citations, I do believe that the scandals and controversy section is, in fact, the most accurate section. You are the same user that was vandalizing the article in the past. Although I am glad you have stopped vandalizing and are trying to add cited info. I think you have been directly affected by one of these events feel angry, and wont stop until your message is out there and people know of the event.

The Volunteer Fire Department isnt a minor item it is the only volunteer fire department in Brooklyn and has been around for 85 years in this neighborhood.

Just to get a basic point out of the way first, before I go into my complete response, I want to say that I'm going to add citations for the parts that I can find them for, because I believe that they are out there. (For example, note that I've added one for the films shot in Gerritsen Beach and deleted refs to films that I can't verify-- I suspect that if you go to the Mayors Office on Film online, you may be able to find other references)

As to your other points, your speculation is completely wrong. I haven't been directly affected by any of the incidents (actually, I live about 250 miles from Brooklyn), nor have I ever edited this article prior to a few weeks ago. I just support telling the whole story as it is, recognizing that there is both good and bad out there.

I was giving a rhetorical argument about the Volunteer Fire Department. Do I think that in the grand scheme of things it is not that important? Yes, but I think that in the history and defining characteristics of the neighborhood and, more importantly, its perceptions, it is definitely worthy of entry in the article. On the same note, I feel that the information given about controversies about race is important to not only understanding the history of Gerritsen Beach, but also how it is perceived by others.

It would be great if you could add references to how members of the community, of which you are obviously an active and caring member, were mostly repulsed by the actions of these few bad apples and spoke up against the behavior. It is important that we get a well balanced article, and I just can't find the sources to give that side of the story-- I'd really appreciate your help on that end! I really do appreciate the care that you obviously have for this subject, and look forward to working with you to make the page the most complete it can be. Why is there even an article?

No one outside of New York knows about Gerritsen Beach. And I always heard the people were inbred there. I ofcourse believe that's an exaggeration, but the area is known for being weird or odd. I know you guys are protecting your reputation. And yes I am from New York. If the neighborhood has a colorful history why not note it? New York is full of odd places, who cares what people think? P.S. What led me to this article was reading about Anthony Weiner. I could not help but notice every neighborhood listed in that article had a wikipedia entry. It's just odd to me.Those places are largely unknown outside of New York.
