Page title
Better known as Sir Geoffrey Vickers. Can this entry be renamed? --RichardVeryard 09:17, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
- I agree with Richard. There is currently a redirect from 'Geoffrey Vickers' to here, could this be reversed or should the article be moved to 'Sir Geoffrey Vickers' which is how he is most generally referred to. There are 14 wikipedia articles that reference him and appear to only be 6 external references according to Google which seems unlikely?PeterIto (talk) 01:02, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
Categorisation
I don't understand how the category pages work. On some of Vickers category pages, he is sorted under C for Charles, and on other pages he is sorted under V for Vickers.--RichardVeryard 09:49, 12 July 2006 (UTC) Okay I've worked it out now.--RichardVeryard 02:21, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
Request
I have an out-of-date link to a paper called "A comparison of the works of Karl Weick and Sir Geoffrey Vickers", by Errol Smythe. Can anyone provide an up-to-date link?--RichardVeryard 02:21, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
Rewrite of the leader to better represent his legacy?
I don't like it because all esential data is missing now. The leader should mention the most simple facts. -- Mdd (talk) 00:24, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
- I agree that it is now missing basic facts and these should be added, but he never referred to his military past or awards in his life and would not have liked the leader as it was written where they were all in-your-face. I agree the systems thinking has disappeared which is clearly an oversight. Can I suggest that you mold it in a way you are happy with and I will take a look tomorrow? PeterIto (talk) 00:53, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
- I have updated the leader again as requested on the talk page. It might be appropriate to add more about his systems legacy, but you are probably more knowledgeable about that than me. I am not convinced about all the section headings for the periods of his life, in particular 'Medical Research' which seems wrong. Possibly it should be something more general to catch the different professional roles he picked up over time. I do hope you feel that over all my contribution this evening has been positive. Very unconvinced about the Presidential Medal. I will ask about that within the family because I can find no citation on the web to confirm it PeterIto (talk) 01:36, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks you, from a systems science perspective the introduction certainly improved. I will take an other look at the other point you mention soon. -- Mdd (talk) 14:56, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
- I am pleased, the presidential medal is only mentioned in the 'Find a Grave' reference, but that article does get his DOB wrong so is possibly not reliable as a sole source PeterIto (talk) 16:03, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the picture. I do agree I would be nice to write more about Vickers systems legacy, as well as the legacy of other systems scientists and their interaction. I time I hope to make some more contributions here, but at the moment I unfortunatly have other priorities. Good luck. -- Mdd (talk) 23:12, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
Medal of Freedom?
The reference does indeed mention that he received the Medal of Freedom, but I can find no other reference to this fact elsewhere and the family are not aware of his having received it; as such I think the reference may not be accurate. I will leave it in for now, but if no one comes up with more evidence I will remove it at a later date. PeterIto (talk) 13:44, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- Hi again, you mentioned this before. I think we should skipp the sentence. The source itselve doesn't seems very reliable. And I can't find Vickers name of the official list, see [link removed] -- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 13:56, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
- Good idea, I thought I had mentioned it before but the comment seemed to have gone. I do know that the rest of his medals, including his VC, are displayed in the museum in Nottingham Castle, so I have added that bit back in. PeterIto (talk) 07:39, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the correction. I guess you mailed me that message before. -- Marcel Douwe Dekker (talk) 13:13, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
