"... 85 per cent of the Aché tribe were hacked to death with machetes..."

Neutrality problem?
What is the rationale for naming this article "genocide" when it seems like the claims of genocide are disputed at best and have been rejected by one human rights commission? Calliopejen1 (talk) 20:46, 19 October 2013 (UTC)

New editor, seeing lots of bad data, don't want to overstep my bounds
Hey, Wikipedia! I'm very new here, but as someone with interest in the Ache people, I noticed that a lot of the data on this page is wildly wrong, at least according to the most comprehensive scholarly studies of 20th-century Ache. For example, "Ache Life History" (an in-depth study of Ache bands conducted over more than a decade, with hundreds of formal interviews of every Ache the authors could find) holds that approximately 60 Ache were killed by Paraguayans in the 20th century. (The Ache population in 1968 was only about 450 people, so the idea that 900 were killed in the 1970s and 1980s seems... unlikely.)
I know that the numbers I'm citing are very different from what the article claims, to the extent that the entire "genocide" section would need to be rewritten to account for modern scholarship. Is it better for me to rewrite the section, or just to introduce the idea that all of the claims there have been contested by recent high-quality scholarship?Aarongertler (talk) 18:26, 12 December 2017 (UTC)
