Fan air edit
It says the turbine powering the prop utilizes "the mixed air" from the F404 core...this means that it retains the low-bypas of he original and uses the cold and hot exhaust stream to power a third turbine stage? But why? It seems like you could get more efficiency by just skipping the normal fan and turbine. This way you've got to extract energy from the exhaust stream (not perfect efficiency), power a fan with it that energizes air, and the re-extract the energy from the air again with yet another turbine, wasting more power. Why not skip the fan stage? Unless of course it really needs that bypass air to cool the core, and it was cheaper to just use it as-is than to redesign it with an even lower bypass-ratio for cooling purposes only.AnnaGoFast (talk) 12:57, 26 November 2017 (UTC)

A GE36 prototype was donated to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum (NASM) in the early 1990s, although it's currently not on display there. It was stored in the Paul E. Garber Preservation, Restoration, and Storage Facility in Suitland, Maryland after that, but I don't know the engine's whereabouts at this moment. It might be in the NASM annex at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Fairfax County, Virginia. Here's what the GE36 display looked like. D271l (talk) 03:02, 25 June 2020 (UTC)
