What kind of images? There are a few gasparilla images in the article already, what is being sought after? (be specific, gasparilla goes right by my house.) -- Dbroadwell 05:39, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

This article needs a lot more information. It appears to focus only on the pirate invasion, when actually Gasparilla includes much more than this, and actually begins with a mock naval battle between the city and "pirates" shooting water cannons and throwing cuban bread, concluding with the mayor giving the keys to the city to the pirates and opening the way for the invasion, etc etc. Also, Gasparilla technically lasts about a month with the various events, parades, etc

Merge with Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla

I don't see any reason for a separate article about the Krewe of Gasparilla. Besides questions of notability, the organization is so inexorably connected with the events of Gasparilla that there's nothing new to say in its independent article. I don't think there are any details there not already mentioned here, but if there are, I'd move them over to this article after the merger. Any thoughts, anyone? Dear Zengr8 - As the holder of the United States Federal Trademark for "Gasparilla" REGISTERED 1/20/2009, Gasparilla Corporation and Gasparilla media's website http://gasparilla.com (Owned by the Federal Trademark registrar Stephanie Sims) should be listed as an external link on this page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gasparilla_Pirate_Festival for the Gasparilla Pirate Fest (and any other pages that refer to the Gasparilla Parade, Gasparilla Event, Gasparilla Pageant. The link: http://sessums.net/gasparilla/ is a commercial website and really only provides a countdown clock wich has no value to the reader. The "Gasparilla Pirate Festival - Official Site link" is also a commercial site which offers goods for sale as well as tickets to the events. Gasparilla.com provides an events calendar, latest news about the event, the Gasparilla krewes, the area and the parades that are Gasparilla. No other site does this in the fashion that we provide. I suggest that you take a look at Wikipedia's policies regarding advertising, conflicts of interest, and external links. You seem to misunderstand the purpose of Wikipedia. It's an online encyclopedia, not a collection of links or the "things to do" section of the Tampa Tribune. (See also the "What Wikipedia is not" page.)

The link that you added is not the official site of the Gasparilla Pirate Festival. Yes, tickets are sold at the official site run by Ye Mystic Krewe, but it's mentioned in the guidelines that official links should be listed. Other commercial sites are usually to be avoided, however, especially if it's the owner or an associate of the owner doing the adding. The trademark issue really has nothing at all to do with it.

Please don't take this personally; it's just Wikibusiness, as the policies listed above are pretty much set in stone. If you'd like to stick around and contribute. you'll find that this article and other Tampa-related articles could use some TLC from local editors. Unfortunately your information is incorrect. The Gasparilla Pirate Festival website is not run by Ye Mystic Krewe at all, and neither is the sessums.net page. http://gasparillapiratefest.com/ is owned and operated by Eventfest Inc. (http://www.eventfest.com/)the promoter of the Gasparilla parade not the owner of the event or the Trademark. Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla's one and only website is: http://ymkg.com/ - Which is NOT listed by This WikiPedia article. Gasparilla.com is not associated with the Tampa Tribune at all, so I am unsure where you are getting any of your information. We do own the Federally protected Trademark for "Gasparilla" We do Produce The "Gasparilla Pageant" (Another link you seem to have a problem with and keep removing). and we work with Ye Mystic Krewe just as does EventFest. How Sessums.net's countdown clock was deemed link worth by your editing staff here at WikiPedia and the two other major websites and organizations that have ownership of the event and it's actual name are not worthy, defies any kind of common sense - wikipedia sense or not. - Please reconsider your official stance, as we are not interested in arguments, only inclusion as the rightful owner of the website and the Federal Trademark. Did you click and read any of the links to Wikipedia policies that I mentioned above? (The links are in blue text.) You still don't seem to understand the purpose of this website or how it works. Wikipedia has no "editing staff", people just come along and create or improve articles according to an agreed-on set of principles. I'll summarize the policy that applies to this situation. Wikipedia has decided that it's NOT a commercial site, so anything even remotely resembling self-promotion or advertising is strictly regulated and policed by all users. That's why someone attempting to add a link to their own commercial website is a big no-no. The one exception to that rule is that the official website of the subject of the article should be listed. No, the link in this article doesn't go to the website of YMKG, it links to the official website of the Gasparilla Pirate Festival, which is the subject of this article. I don't know who added that link to the countdown clock, but it's gone now, so that's a moot point.

And trademarks have nothing to do with this. Speaking of which, repeatedly insisting that you own "Gasparilla" made me wonder how anyone could trademark a celebrated name that's been commonly used for over 100 years. So I did a quick search, and I discovered that you actually own the trademark to "Gasparilla Calendar", as seen here. Again, this makes no difference in deciding whether or not to include your link in this article. However, I have to say that your disingenuous misrepresentation doesn't help your cause very much. I think that you have shown your research capabilities to be lacking sir. If you do a proper search for the Trademark "Gasparilla" you will find this at the United States Patent and Trademark Office: http://tmsearch.uspto.gov/bin/showfield?f=doc&state=4809:x7irvz.2.5 I think you should do complete due diligence before publicly calling someone disingenuous. All right, so you have a trademark on using the word Gasparilla for a calendar and for "entertainment in the nature of beauty pageants". You implied and continue to imply that you are the official holder of the "Gasparilla" name when that is clearly not the case. But, to be honest, that issue really doesn't factor in this discussion. Again, this article is about the Gasparilla Pirate Festival, so according to Wikipedia policy, the official link should be listed in the external link section. Others must be evaluated according to the external links policies that I've referenced above, and it's extremely problematic for the owner of the site in question to add it themselves. --Zeng8r (talk) 16:17, 23 May 2014 (UTC)

I'll add a third opinion if I may. Zeng8r is quite right that external links are (or should be) pretty heavily scrutinized in Wikipedia articles. Official websites are generally considered acceptable. The www.gasparillapiratefest.com site is the official one according to the City of Tampa's own website,[1] so it's an acceptable link, whatever its faults. Gasparilla.com is a fine site, but I really don't see what it adds here, and it doesn't really meet the criteria of generally acceptable links or even links to be considered. Last night, User:Rsessums deleted the discussion above that started with an explanation of why an external link to a minor event with "Gasparilla" in the title shouldn't be included in the article and devolved into a spurious claim of "ownership" of the Gasparilla name. Thank you all for keeping Wikipedia accurate. *As such, I am adding to that effort by telling you that user GasparillaMedia has NO affiliation with myself and the federal trademark mentioned here. He was a person, at the time of this edit and discussion series he instigated, who was attempting for a few short months to manage my web site, Gasparilla.com and saw profit in trying to bully here, again by trying to cloud the article. First of all, please do NOT remove talk page discussions or portions thereof, especially comments that were made by other users. See WP:TPO for details on that guideline.

Secondly, please do not assume bad faith by other users. While I'll admit to be a little annoyed that someone (or multiple someone) has/have repeatedly tried to slip the same link into this article over the past several years, the issue is really not personal; it's just Wiki-business. Nobody is passing judgement on you, your organization, or the event, and nobody mentioned anybody's name except for you in your comment above. The simple problem is that the link you added (again) does not belong in this article per Wikipedia's policies regarding external links, which was explained above last year and can be read in its entirety right here: WP:ADV. First: I wish there were away to remove the initial comments that this other user made back in March of 2014, as they were not correct. He had no right to make claims about myself or my properties, and that is why I asked for assistance in removing them. They are erroneous and irrelevant and I wanted help to clean them out, as it is embarrassing to me personally. Secondly: I did try to add a hyperlink, as I noticed other non-official pages had hyperlinks. I thought mine could be included, also, as theirs are (i.e. Film Fesitval, Gasparilla Race, Arts festival). Thank you. I realize that this occurred last year, but it was only brought to my attention a few days ago.I appreciate your help.

Gasparilla Beauty Pageant, again

Again, Wikipedia is not to be used for promotional purposes. (See above for exhaustive discussions.) The pageant might be a fine event, but it does not get much (if any) independent media coverage, even locally. A search at the Tampa Bay Times website (which doesn't have a great search feature, I must say) doesn't find a mention of the pageant in the first 100 articles listed, but it does return multiple hits for the road race, the film festival, the arts festival, and the music festival. Those are listed individually, but the pageant is best lumped in with the "changing lineup of smaller events" phrase that covers the myriad of other events which also use the name. --Zeng8r (talk) 10:48, 27 October 2017 (UTC)

Proposed merge with Sant'Yago Knight Parade

I've been working on this and other Gaspar and Gasparilla-related articles for a long time, and I've come to the conclusion that there isn't enough independent content at Sant'Yago Knight Parade to justify keeping it as a separate article. Any information that is not already in the relevant section of this entry should be transferred over and the Knight Parade article changed into a redirect page, imo. Thoughts? I went ahead and completed the redirect, as this is the busiest week of the year for this arr-ticle (see what I did there?) and the redirect proposal banner could be confusing to casual Wiki-readers, imo. However, I'd be happy to help un-combine the articles if someone figures out a way to expand the Knight Parade entry with good sources. Even with my quite extensive collection of Tampa history books and resources, I couldn't find enough additional info to make it work. Zeng8r (talk) 01:16, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
