Requiring distinction between 'Recovery' and 'Recovery Inc.' ?

Regarding the following line:

As the organization matured, GROW members learned of Recovery International, an organization also created to help people with serious mental illness, and integrated pieces of its will-training methods.

Prior to being called GROW, the organisation was known as Recovery. While it acknowledges Recovery International/Recovery Inc. within GROW Comes of Age [3], confusion as to the links between the two organisations could still be made - perhaps this should be re-written a little more clearly to emphasise that they are two different organisations? --Gaianchild (talk) 06:01, 29 December 2009 (UTC)

It is true that GROW used to be known as Recovery, but it was never known as Recovery International. I agree though that it could be confusing, and a short clarification couldn't hurt. So long as it follows the guideline on using self-published sources, I think that's fine.

Somewhat related, since you are a GROW member, you will want to familiarize yourself with Wikipedia's guidelines regarding conflicts of interest. -- Scarpy (talk) 08:15, 29 December 2009 (UTC)

Homophobia and religion in grow

A number of Grow's current publications, particuarly their 'red book' contain homophobic sections. They still describe homosexuality as a mental illness. Also, while grow claims to be non religious, there is plenty of religion within the group. Finally there is an ongoing issue with staff abuse of grow members, particuarly in New South Wales. In order to introduce these aspects to the article, what is the refrencing standard required? For example can I quote sections of their red book? Do I just need the quote aned page numbers? Literature with homophobic content (which was all written during an era when homophobia was regretfully part of common social mores) has been removed from the GROW program. I apologise to any LGBTQ+ people who have been subjected to homophobic material from the older GROW materials. The GROW program is an evolving program based in lived experience and has changed as society has changed. It is not homophobic. There are still a few binary or heteronormative references in the materials but these are in the process of being removed in the current update of The Blue Book. Many LGBTQ+ people attend GROW. A foundation of the GROW Program is the principle of Personal Value which is about radical equality and inclusion of all humans.

In regard to religion, there are sections that acknowledge a spiritual framework which is flexible for the individual to choose what their framework is. In the places where God is mentioned, there are alternatives that mention "truth" or "nature" and the GROW program says the following about religion - 1. Members are encouraged to live up to their own faith if they have one. 2. Grow meetings may never be used as occasions for converting other members to a particular religion. 3. Grow meetings are not the place for raising and discussing controversial religious or anti-religious issues. 4. Incidental references to religious beliefs are welcomed whenever they show how the individual's faith has contributed to their recovery and personal growth. 161.8.216.199 (talk) 04:15, 1 June 2023 (UTC)

Logo and Blue Book image on page

There was some discussion of the fair use of the blue book image that's currently here: Wikipedia:Media_copyright_questions#Bot_not_acknowledging_fair_use_rationale

The explanation given was that A justified use of non-free content on GROW (support group) would be its logo, not one of the organization's book covers. I was tempted to go a look for a logo, but looking at the most recent versions of their sites, I don't see the Truth, Character, Friendship logo in use on the Australia site or Irish site. It's on the New Zealand site, but not featured very prominently. It's still on the American site, but looks like that hasn't been redesigned recently. So I'm not sure if it still has the same official status that it once did. So I'm not going to replace the image. I also don't see it as being a high priority in terms of things that would improve the article. - Scarpy (talk) 20:32, 13 July 2021 (UTC)
