GENESIS is not a product, but a scientific computing platform which is available free for download and has been so available for 20 years. The other simulation platform that is comperable to GENESIS is Neuron, which has a page in wikipedia.
the article I just posted also includes a reference to a book published by Springer which is a reference text for the use of GENESIS.
GENESIS has been used as a base for more than 600 peer-reviewed scientific publications, and the GENESIS users group has members in 700 universities around the world.
the most important point, however, is that this is not a product for sale, but a software platform supported by grants from the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health.
GENESIS also has historical significance as a software package as indicated in the article.

to make this look less like an advertisement (which it isn't) I have included the reference to the other major software system used around the world to construct realistic models of the nervous system.
one more point -- if you look at the entry for NEURON, you will see that I followed the form of that entry here quite closely, except that I added some of the historical significance of the design of the system. So in that sense, this entry is more of an encylopedia entry than the original Neuron entry.

The article lists one book and one external link, but it doesn't make it clear which is used for each of the individual statements made, which is why I've tagged it for footnotes. A proper reference section with footnotes would be nice.

Biologically oriented, not artificial edit
There should be something, preferably in the Intro, that explicitly states that GENESIS models biological systems, rather than being a tool for developing artificial neural networks. BMJ-pdx (talk) 13:33, 7 September 2022 (UTC)
