Furling Paradise

edit

Somehow the impression has come across that the paradise we saw in Paradise Lost didn't have any Furlings in it. However, this is directly contradicted by what Maybourne says in that particular episode: "A long time ago, some people from an advanced alien society, well they chucked it all and they formed this small, isolated Utopian community. They sent out representatives to meet and evaluate people from all over the galaxy and offer them a chance to join them. The scroll and the stone were the invitation." Note: "join THEM". I can understand the confusion since all the skeletons they found seemed to be humanoid, but I think that just suggests that the Furlings themselves were humanoid. The Nox, Alterans and the original Asgard were humanoid as well, so would have similar skeletons as well. (DrZarkov 22:08, August 17, 2005 (UTC))

The Furlings might have been humanoid, but that doesn't mean that they were physically identical to humans. The Nox are proportioned differently than humanity (Essentially, they're very sort) which alone would create differences in their internal make-up, and we have no idea what their interior looks like (For example, they might have twice as many ribs, none at all, or a smaller skull within their chest that contains a portion of their brain). The Asgard were distanced even further, when you see their ancestors (Season 6 I believe, soon after the appearance of Jonas) they were physically and obviously distinguished from humans, even though they were closer than their current form. Unless we're talking Star Trek aliens, even humanoid beings will be drastically different internally and their skeletons identifiable as non-human by anyone with even a smidgin of knowledge on human anatomy. However, I should point out that the odds are that they were in the colony as well, I'm just saying that they weren't any of the bodies that were discovered. Perhaps they decompose quickly, or something like that.

Where did that quote come from then? Because I don't remember it, and whenever that episode's on I ensure I don't miss a word. --Hexhunter 16:40, 3 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Furling in season one

edit

I belive that water man that imprisoned Daniel in first season was Furling. He had technology equal to Asgard or Ancients. His race went to earth to protect people from Gou'ald. And he did'nt want to harm Daniel, even he thought he serves Gou'ald.

Good thought - I had forgotten about that guy. Try to find the race name or episode and add it to the sentence "Possible candidates include the Salish Spirits or the Giant Aliens from "Crystal Skull"." Morphh 12:47, 14 July 2006 (UTC)Reply
I looked it up in Fire and Water (Stargate SG-1) and this race is called "Oannes". Morphh 12:56, 14 July 2006 (UTC) Yes his name was NimReply

Episode 200

edit

I didn't want to put this on the main page 'cause I can't attribute a source to it (other than myself and anyone else who was at the SG-1 panel at Comic Con this year) but when asked if the Furlings would be showing up this season, the reply was 'wait for episode 200'. Ep 200 will be shown on August 18, 2006 so we hopefully will find out soon. :) -- Krinberry 00:21, 8 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Somehow I doubt they'll be shown, it's going to be a second lowsy Wormhole X-Treme! type ep and if they do show the Furlings, it will probably be fake for Martin's movie about Wormhole X-Treme! and not for real.

Faris b 01:56, 16 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I added a picture from the latest episode. A lot of things in the episode are fake, but as this is one of the only pictures of a Furling, even if it is a fake, it is the closest anyone has to a picture of one. It at least gives people an idea of what the creature looks like if nothing else. --Odie5533 21:55, 20 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the pic! While I do think it belongs on the page, I don't think it is best for the main infobox. Perhaps others will disagree but I put the technology pic back and added the WH X-treme pic toward the bottom where they describe the episode and the Ewok appearance. Morphh 22:11, 20 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
In the Ten Years of StarGate SG-1 special, Amanda Tapping refers to the Furlings portrayed in episode 200: "We've referenced, cross-referenced everyting. Old animes, the Furlings, this race that we've never ever seen that the fans keep asking about, so we show them the Furlings." I think this is a confirmation that the picture is very similar to what the Furlings actually look like. --Odie5533 23:09, 2 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
While I agree that the picture from 200 shouldn't be in the infobox, the technology picture currently there is rather uninformative. I'm assuming it's a picture of the "guts" of a control panel from the portal on the commune planet, but that's just a guess based on the fact that this is the only episode I know of where Furling technology was seen. I can't tell the scale of the image and it's too dark to make out much in the way of detail. Perhaps does anyone have a clear screen capture of Furling writing from "Torment of Tantalus"? Bryan 00:20, 21 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
I looked over the episode and grabbed the best pictures I could of each writing system. I'm not sure which is Furling, but here are the images: http://odie5533.com/wikipedia/writing1.png http://odie5533.com/wikipedia/writing2.png http://odie5533.com/wikipedia/writing3.png http://odie5533.com/wikipedia/writing4.png . These images are uploaded to my host for educational purposes and being used under fair use as tv screenshots. Feel free to upload whichever to Wikipedia for use in the article. --Odie5533 01:43, 21 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hm. Writing1 is clearly Asgard and writing3 is clearly Ancient, I'll have to poke around a bit to see if it's known which of the remaining two is Nox and which is Furling. Bryan 06:46, 21 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
Heh. Just saw that this very article mentions these two writing systems haven't been positively linked with their respective races yet. Oh well. The Ancient writing is somewhat different from the "standard" form that's developed since first season, I might be able to incorporate that into the language and writing system section on their article. The Asgard don't have a writing example at all in their article, I can definitely use writing1 there. Bryan 06:59, 21 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Furlong

edit

I removed the Furlong stuff as it's quite a reach from FURLING. Furling is a sailing term. If you have a theory, post it in the discussion, not the main article.

Translation Issues

edit

Okay everyone is saying that they won't make the furlings cute and fluffy like their name suggests.

I have another theory. They will just say that Daniel misstranslated their name way back in season 2 and never got around to checking the translation (the castle was sinking into the waves and they were trying to escape after all) untill of course the first five minutes of the episode.

This eliminates all of the problems assosiated with the whole Ewok sterio type and lets the writers stop worrying about WHAT THE HECK DOES A FIRLING LOOK LIKE???

I would also like to point out that they will probably be huminoid because CG is expensive and they may not want to do another puppet race.

The Furlings have been mentioned by other races, including those that met them, so it can't be a mistranslation. Sorry. Also, I really doubt that the writers will go cute and fuzzy just because of their names. JBK405 03:36, 21 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

also, just because the word Furling sounds cute and fuzzy in the english language, doesnt mean that it sounds/means cute and fuzzy in Furling language. Take for example the japanese word for apple 'ringo' to an english speaker, the word ringo would probably make most people think of a ring or circle, yet the word has nothing to do with a ring. --Zoobz19 (talk) 18:08, 23 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Further Integration Into Season 10

edit

What I would like to see, is the re-emergance of the true Furlings in season ten for reals. I can imagine the final episode, where the Ori are finally defeated (or even, ironically the last SG-1 episode made-ever) and out of nowhere, the Furlings come out and kick their asses! Dark Observer 20:59, 13 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, show's over and no Furlings in sight!

Dammit! Dark Observer 02:25, 16 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
New show coming, though. :) Bryan Derksen 02:38, 16 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
The show has said that the Furlings gave up technology. Harry Maybourne said: "A long time ago, some people from an advanced alien society, well they chucked it all and they formed this small, isolated Utopian community." But then again, it wouldnt be the first time that the writers have contradicted themselves. They could say that it was just like a 'hippie' phase or something and then went back to advanced technology. --Zoobz19 (talk) 18:17, 23 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
Well, no Furlings and now no new show in sight... thing about the hippie phase is that they remained on a moon and not moved to another galaxy like the Alterans or the Asgards did. But who knows... we might see them in Atlantis. Or a new show... whenever that might be.

Crystal Skull

edit

I'm sorry, but I just have to say that it better be the Toltec-Mayan aliens from Cyrstal Skull. For ten years now the writers have explored gods from both western and eastern civilizations, but not those of south or central america. They've even explored native North American gods. For this reason, and because, really, WTF, Daniel Jackson's grandfather leaves to join them and says he'll come back with help to fight the Goauld? But he doesn't, and the writers just plain forget about him for seven years. That is incredibly irritating. Gosh, and this whole thing about them being "out of phase" and the fact that that is now being used as humanity's only hope in protecting people from the Ori? Please! 69.210.105.187 16:41, 20 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

It's been implied that gods from all around the world were actually Goa'uld. Quetzalcoatl (South America), Baiame (Australia) etc. were presumably also Goa'uld. --Irrevenant [ talk ] 10:41, 29 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ori

edit

I think its just hallarius that no one has even thought to say the Furling are the Ori. Cooper's statment could very well be right, and thus, the reason why season ten showed no signs of Furling could only mean it will be discussed in the upcoming tv movie, which is suposed to discuss the Ori's Orgin.--68.192.188.142 00:54, 19 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Last member of the old alliance?

edit

"Since Thor proclaimed the Tau'ri "The Fifth Race", this may have opened up the possibility of showing the mysterious Furlings and future new alliance forged between the last living member of the old alliance and the Fifth Race." - What? The Nox aren't dead yet. Richard Jackson (talk) 22:22, 23 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Language

edit

(though only the Ancient and Asgard writings have been positively linked with their civilizations)

Isn't the Furling language identified by Jonas Quinn in 'Paradise Lost' (Season 6, Episode 15)?

He was motioning towards the large wall covering that had curvy letters similar to the second language that was lighted up in 'The Torment of Tantalus'. And also he also translates a portion of the combination lock when they first get to the planet.
