The conclusion of the main section of this article includes the equation $\rho (\mathbf {r} )=\rho _{0}+\delta n{\frac {\cos(2k_{F}|\mathbf {r} |+\delta )}{|\mathbf {r} |}}$ but little attempt to unpack the meaning is made. What is the origin of the name "Friedel oscillations"?
