Republic?

Is Fiji still a republic? The article Fiji claims that Queen Elizabeth II is "Great Chief" of the Great Council of Chiefs. Thuresson 14:46, 9 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Unfortunately yes. Queen Elizabeth still occupies a higher place than there so called president though and she is still Queen of Fiji despite his obnoxious presence. Let's hope the Monarchy is restored fully soon and the president is given the boot and his post abolished! YourPTR! 09:37, 14 July 2007 (UTC)
For a more factual and objective reply, Queen Elizabeth has a purely honorary title ("Paramount Chief of Fiji"), and the Great Council of Chiefs considers that she is still Queen of Fiji in a purely honorary sense, but Fiji is a republic with a President, Ratu Josefa Iloilovatu Uluivuda. Constitutionally, the Queen has no function whatsoever, so her being "Queen" in Fiji is essentially a title of nobility; it is not a title within government. Still, it does mean, in a way, that Fiji is a republic with a Queen - a rather unusual set of circumstances. Aridd (talk) 00:41, 10 January 2008 (UTC)this information is all wrong

Flag versions

IMPORTANT: I notices many differences between fijian flags. On this version, the black frame on the coats of arms doesnt surround every symbols. This is different from the one on Fiji govenment website. Flags for sale in Fiji have also many different designs. Flag waved by rugby fans

In the TV coverage of Fiji's Olympics rugby win, I noticed that the version of the flag which seemed to be most often waved had the white disk at right... AnonMoos (talk) 14:53, 12 August 2016 (UTC)

@AnonMoos: Very interesting, do you mean to say there was a white disc surrounding the Arms in the fly? Or something else entirely? Snow Lion Fenian (talk) 19:20, 4 February 2019 (UTC)
You should have asked me back then; I really don't remember now...   -- AnonMoos (talk) 04:10, 5 February 2019 (UTC)

About the possible flag change in 2020...

If that happens, then Tokyo 2020 will be their last Olympics under the current flag. Am I right? 112.205.219.43 (talk) 10:55, 16 March 2019 (UTC)
