Talk:Fitzroy Football Club/Archive 1

Present day

PMA says that the modern FFC is not the same legal entity as the original club, so I have changed the wording so that it doesn't state it is. It would be good to have a definitive source one way or the other. JPD (talk) 12:54, 5 December 2005 (UTC)

It is in fact, the same entity. The FFC Ltd is was put into administration in 1996 and came out in early 1998 I believe. Only the playing operations were merged with Brisbane, not the legal entity. This was confirmed by the Supreme Court!!

  • The above decision in the Supreme Court referred to business entity - which is not the same as the whole club. As mentioned, the playing operations were absorbed by Brisbane. But the club as an on field entity - which is what the original entity was - no longer exists. Technically it is the same entity, but it is now a different sort of business completely. I think that needs to be taken into account. Curse of Fenric 05:30, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
  • I have also added the angst between the FFC and the AFL - which I can back up through experience on a forum elsewhere on the Internet as I came across one of these diehards, and was fed a rather biased line on the AFL's puported activities stopping them from doing anything positive to remain in the AFL. I tried to keep what I added within Wiki rules and as passive as I could and I hope it's OK. Curse of Fenric 05:30, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
I don't think experience on an internet forum really meets Wikipedia's verifiability policy, and it's really not our place to say "it won't go away". Do you think you could try to reword it and cite some reliable sources? JPD (talk) 08:35, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
This is the problem, JPD. I know the problem exists personally, but providing a verifiable source is impossible because everytime one appears it gets removed by either a court order from the Fitzroy board, or by the AFL. As far as rewording it goes - I'm going to need some advice (detailed and specific that is) as to what's acceptable and what's not. There is a book called "The Death of Fitzroy" but I am of the view that it's not reliable because it is biased against the AFL. I guess you could say it's an example of the problem I'm canvassing here. I'm going into some details because of the Internet forum experience but getting the results of that in a verifiable form isn't going to be easy. Curse of Fenric 10:49, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:FitzroyLogo.png

Image:FitzroyLogo.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 07:02, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

Fitzroy Bulldogs

--kicka (talk) 00:42, 16 July 2008 (UTC)I'm upset that Wikipedia dosen't have a page on the Fitzroy Bulldogs. They have a page on other mergers that happened in the AFL/VFL, but not the Fitzroy Bulldogs. This club would of been created in October 1989, if it wasn't for the efforts of the Footscray (as it was called then) supporters, they wouldn't of raised the A$1.5 million needed to pay off debts.

Dubious Champion of the Colony winners

No source has ever been cited from any year during which a Champion of the Colony/Season award is alleged to have been made.

A number of Fitzroy players undoubtedly won an individual newspaper's "Player of the Year" award. However, that should be noted as the media award by that paper, not the mythical vote by multiple journalists.

The Argus listed the following for example: 1890 - J Worrall, see the issue of 29 September 1890, 1893 - T Banks, see the issue of 2 October 1893, 1899 - P Hickey, see the issue of 18 September 1899 RossRSmith (talk) 10:12, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
