Proposal for Revision
editThe current Farnborough Wikipedia page lacks comprehensive information compared to other areas within the same domain. As an enthusiast of local history and a dedicated Wikipedia contributor, I have taken the initiative to propose a revision for this page. In my sandbox, I have drafted a revamped version of the Farnborough Wikipedia page, aiming to enrich it with additional details, historical context, notable landmarks, and relevant references. This proposed revision intends to provide readers with a more comprehensive understanding of Farnborough's rich history, cultural significance, and contributions to the wider community. I invite fellow editors, historians, and residents to review the proposed changes and contribute their insights to enhance the quality and depth of information on the Farnborough Wikipedia page. - @Clodmuse: great job incorporating the new info, but could you please take a look at the ref errors for what you named "Ordnance" and "MetOffice"? Thanks! -- Fyrael (talk) 03:43, 6 April 2024 (UTC)
- The current Wikipedia page for Farnborough mentions two sculptures: a concrete elephant and "Into Our First World" bronze; I believe both of these are in Camberley, not Farnborough. Also, I don't know of an obelisk in Farnborough (GU14 postcode) and wonder if there has been confusion with a different Farnborough. 146.199.108.82 (talk) 08:05, 10 April 2024 (UTC)
- Me neither. A Google search only brings up an obelisk in Farnborough, Warwickshire. No evidence of such a thing in Farnborough, Hampshire. As an addendum, is it me, or is this article particularly flowery, with a lot of statements not backed up by sources? It doesn't seem like a particularly encyclopediac article by Wikipedia's standards, at least. giftheck (talk) 11:35, 18 April 2024 (UTC)
- Further reading into it: yes, this article is in serious need of fact-checking and revision. I have removed the two incorrect statements re. the Farnborough Obelisk and the Concrete Elephant, originally stated to be on London Road. We have no London Road. The nearest town with a London Road is Guildford. giftheck (talk) 11:41, 18 April 2024 (UTC)
- The A30 is known as the London Road but it runs through neighbouring Camberley, not Farnborough. 146.199.108.82 (talk) 11:11, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
