Facts

As a former annual passholder (Anaheim) who visited the show frequently, I know the following facts about the attraction.

First, the only essential component is the Columbia (turned into Captain Hook's pirate ship for the show), and the Rivers of America. All other sequences have backups which can take the part of the regular sequence.

Second, the show, once started, cannot be restarted if something goes wrong and the show cuts out. This was confirmed to me by a cast member after the show stopped during one performance. --76.172.186.236 (talk) 08:53, 17 August 2009 (UTC)No longer true since the film loops were removed.

Third, it is virtually impossible to photograph any aspect of the show without knowing what you are doing and having the right equipment and film. The light level is way too low for most cameras (and flashes don't work at that distance), and the moving equipment travels way too fast for that to compensate for it. The only way to get decent photographs is to have a VERY fast film (1600) and know what you are doing. Maybe modern digital cameras and recorders can do it, but the principles remain.

Facts should be cited from verifiable sources. Sorry, we don't contribute our own experiences or things we heard from other people. Disneyfile 20:24, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

I find the production costs per showing to be unbelieveable. If nothing else, there's no citation. It doesn't seem realistic that Disney would pay nearly $60,000 more per showing @ Disneyland than at Disney-MGM. It wouldn't take very long to recover the cost of building a new amphitheater at the California resort area if the difference was really that much every night the show is performed. Fgarriel 14:35, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

I don't know if it's 60,000 more, but I DO know that the one in Disneyland is more expensive. The Peter Pan sequence alone is worth a huge bundle, and it was eliminated in Disney-MGM's sequence with Pocahontas instead. Plus I've seen both shows, and there's much more fireworks in the Disneyland version Small5th 22:29, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

I used to work at MGM and we were told it cost 60,000 per show, now that could very well just be management spreading the rumor but then again, the cost is not prohibative when you think about how many people attend MGM a day (roughly 30,000 in the summer).

Kingdom Hearts II prank

Hi, I just wanted to point out that the version of the show at Disney-MGM studios, according to this article, has some of the Organization XIII members, from the Kingdom Hearts series of video games, as villians. Disney theme parks, as I believe, do not have the license to have Kingdom Hearts components or attractions yet. Therefore, I believe that this was a prank by a KH fan just hoping for a ride based on his favourite video game. I will delete the Organization XIII names until someone has proof that they really DO appear. --172.162.80.93 23:45, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

Agreed...but I think that entire section the person put down is a prank...all those new villains i've never seen any proof for. Anyone else agree that "New Villain" section should be deleted? Small5th 00:26, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

No, there never was kingdom hearts characters in fantasmic (yet), and disney owns the rights to kingdom hearts so they can do it if they want, don't say square enix holds more, they don't, in fact, disney could buy square enix if they wish. you're all wrong, and the monster captain nemo fights is not the kraken, it's a giant squid from 20,000 Leagues under the sea. You're All Wrong, and before i sign on, i'm changing the kraken to squid. Really.

Show technology

The most interesting aspect of the show is the bizarre technology that goes into it, especially the water-screen projection. This would be a great addition to the article if anyone can find out about it. David McCabe 01:24, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

Some info on Disneyland's large hydraulic light towers that are used for the show would be nice too. I see so many amazed looks as they take these things out of the ground for each nights show.

WTH?????

Who in the world butchered this article and why???? it was perfect as it is??? Small5th 16:43, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Please be specific about any changes the bothered you. Disneyfile 20:24, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

Article tone

Maybe it's just me, but this article reads like one big advertisement, particularly the synopses which form the bulk of the article. The tone is POV, unencyclopedic and basically the whole article is unsourced. Why does this supposed encyclopedia article have information on pricing, when to arrive to get the best seating, what ticket packages to purchase and which restaurants to eat at? I'm surprised the 800 number isn't listed. For now I'm adding some tags to the article and/or synopsis sections. MarkBrooks 01:05, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

I'm the assistant of the producer of the show. I'm correcting this article and throwing out all the stuff that is wrong. Magicalbill 02:37, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Technology

I agree would be nice to have some more facts about the technology. Im curious about what fuel they use to create the fire floating on water and how do they ensure it all burns off in the correct place. 69.232.70.56 11:04, 27 March 2007 (UTC) Sandy

The fuel is gas, and is supplied by gas pipes that are under the water. As long as the gas is emitted is how long the fire will burn. When it is shut off the fire burns up whats left and goes out. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.61.246.240 (talk) 01:29, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

DVD, eventually?

Anyone think that this show would be great to have on DVD? I can see that they wouldn't do that for a while, because it would decrease attendance to the live show at Disneyland, but if they ever replaced Fantasmic! with a different or new attraction, and put out a Fantasmic! DVD release, I think that would be terrific. --QQQ (8-8-07)

There have been DVD releases...though by other organizations. Click on Ebay...a good one is RU42 Small5th 04:52, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

I believe some of the audio information is wrong. From a Sound and Communication article it states:

Fantasmic! had some interesting firsts. This was the first project we created that would attempt to intertwine audio with lighting, gas, smoke, pyro, film projection and water, not to mention 60 performers. The audio system was huge! We used a lot of EAW KF850s, KF600, KF300, SB850, SB1000, Crest/Nexus-controlled amplifiers, and Meyer Sound UPA-1As, and CQ-2s. Version 1 of our audio control had a proprietary DECS computer-scripting cue controller, a Synthesis controlling router and audio/video sourced from two jam-synced (black burst synced) Pioneer laserdisc players.

Four audio tracks were taken from one machine and four more from the other. Only one video source was taken, and the other was a redundant backup. There was not an audio console in the system path. We found that the show ran great this way, and was consistent night to night. But, when we wanted to use the system for special events going through Synthesis to set levels, it was not very fast. A mixer was added to the path to help speed up our special events. Subsequent iterations have seen Synthesis going away and Peavey MediaMatrix being installed. In its current form, LCS is installed as the router/mixer/EQ and some audio movements have been put in using space maps. LCS wild tracks are now the playback medium. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.61.246.240 (talk) 00:31, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Lighting information removed

Why was my lighting information removed, it was all correct and valid.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.61.246.240 (talkcontribs)

I can't say, but I do know that this and other articles suffer from a lot of Original Research WP:OR. Even if it is true and correct, any information must be referenced. Bytebear (talk) 18:46, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

I work there, I think i would know it to be right. You can clearly count the number of lights on each tower. And I worked closely with Brian Gale the Lighting Designer of the re-design, its not that difficult to know your lighting. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.61.246.240 (talkcontribs)

As a former LD (Lighting Designer), I can confirm a majority of the technical details as correct. Furthermore, I had a discussion with a spot-operator about the new lights which we just re-integrated this March, 2008. However, said that, I would agree that the information is primarily trivia and isn't externally beneficial to the article in general. Yet, the complete lighting re-do in early 2008 is significant since this is the first rework of fixtures since the show began in 1995. As such, I will look at the article and probably look into creating a "summary" instead of the "technical datasheet" format presented earlier. Tiggerjay (talk) 16:58, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Actually the show began in 1992 not 1995. 2007-15=1992 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.61.246.240 (talk) 01:17, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

I would also remove the reference to www.dlnewstoday.com. When I left that site, I removed their access to my photos on my Flickr, you can see they are unavailable when you click on the link. Plus your people's knowledge of Fantasmics updated lighting and control systems really stinks. If you were to look at the towers you would have seen that the mainlands do not have 2 each only Tower B does. A and C have one each. The Island towers have 2 each, with 2 behind the mill on a scissor lift. These syncros do not have UV capabilities. The only syncrolites on Disneyland Property that have UV capabilities are the 5 7kw ones that light Tink during Remember. They have custom UV lenses. The followspots were not replaced, but modified to have gobo capabilities. You can see that when Mickey is lit with a star. The same Strong Galdiator III Follows have been with the show since opening. The projectors were not updated last refurb, they are to be replaced this refurb during christmas. They are also adding a Flotsem and Jetsem sequence in with Ursulas. They are also replacing Bucky with a more full bodied dragon. Maybe next time you will look before you go right ahead and post like you know it all.

Ok what idiot posted "2 behind the roof opening of the tavern were added". The opening int he mill is for the lift that rises mickey. The two MX-3000s are behind the mill on a scissor lift. They lower into a redish brown crate thats back there. Go back there you will see it. Before they built that they had them coverd with a brown tarp. Character @ End

The list of the finale character appearances have been changing recently. I'm not certain that there is a fixed set of characters, other then some obvious: steam boat Mickey, other characters from earlier in the show... But the other characters, such as the Chimney Sweeps, etc,. I have seen off-and-on again. I will be ... WP:BRD ... and condense this section since this information appears to change without much significance. Tiggerjay (talk) 17:00, 28 April 2008 (UTC)\

New Dragon in Florida?

Now that the dragon is returning to Disneyland, will there be a new dragon in Disney's Hollywood Studios? 71.138.166.197 (talk) 03:27, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

Alternative Show

Shouldn't the alternative show (called Taste of Fantasmic!) be mentioned in the article? This is the show that plays at Disney's Hollywood Studios when the weather prohibits cast members from performing the regular show. ~ Jedi94 (talk) 18:14 23 September 2010 (UTC)

If you can provide reliable and verifiable third-party source information stating (a) that this is the name of the show and (b) that is when it is performed, then yes, it should be in the article. --McDoobAU93 22:39, 23 September 2010 (UTC)
I'm on it then! ~ Jedi94 (talk) 18:14, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

It seems wildly unlikely that the alternative show is only four minutes long given the rest of its description. The third-party source information does not contain a show length. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.185.26.56 (talk) 14:16, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

A simple search on YouTube should answer your concern. ~ Jedi94 (talk) 02:25, 8 August 2012 (UTC)

I don't think the plot needs to be repeated 3 times

The basic plot once and "Differences between the versions" should be enough.

Also, whoever wrote the plot was a child [***]. --Niemti (talk) 23:01, 15 May 2014 (UTC)

In 2011 the show during its refurbishment was given new firework effect when Mickey appears at the top of the mountain and new lights during the dragon scene, and also Mickey was given a new sword that's bigger and a new firework effect that shoots a red light beam towards the dragon making the effect he defeated her Typoulsonwdwmm (talk) 02:30, 3 September 2014 (UTC)
