This woman was in her time regarded as a talented diplomat and a most persuasive , charming and charismatic woman whose contribution to 19th century diplomacy is not to be underestimated. What is the evidence for the allegations of homosexual relationships? This seems very unlikely for a woman whose was known throughout her life to be a very devout Catholic. If this is just rumour with no real evidence, I think it should be deleted. - Well, claims regarding bisexuality have popped back up twice today, both times cited to irrelevant links (both general profiles of the estimable Dame Ethel Smyth -- one mentions the Empress only as a friend and notes her sympathy with the women's movement; the other mentions her not at all. Neither, strictly speaking, are reliable sources). There would be no problem with including material drawn from clear, well-sourced material in this regard, but the fact that she was acquainted with lesbians or rumored in some unspecified way at some point in her long life to be bisexual is far from encylopedic. Perhaps these speculations tie in with her association with Marie Antoinette, who was the subject of similar gossip. Robertissimo 19:49, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
Suo jure titles?
The article says that she was 18th Marchioness of Ardales, 18th Marchioness of Moya, 19th Countess of Teba, 10th Countess of Montijo and ?th Countess of Ablitas. Did she really hold these titles suo jure? Surtsicna (talk) 20:40, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
Pronunciation of name?
How is her first name pronounced? And I mean an actual phonetic pronunciation, because I can't read "øʒeni". And quite frankly a phonetic pronunciation would improve the article. --76.115.67.114 (talk) 11:36, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
- Clicking on the IPA script will take you to a chart that gives English sounds for the characters. To substitute English letters up front as a phonetic respell might prove misleading, as "eu", especially, has not the pronunciation in English as it does in French, although close. Also, I see that the last name isn't correct phonetically as IPA "ʒ" (zh) is not how the "j" in Montijo would be pronounced, the pronunciation being closer to IPA "x" (ch in loch). I'll change it. Aimée de Heeren
The Legacy para about the jewellery collection and de Heeren is essentially unsourced. One cite doesn't mention de Heeren, and the dead link doesn't mention Eugénie, at least in this cached version [1]. Neither does the Aimée de Heeren article mention Eugénie.
