I'll get to this shortly.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 20:29, 4 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

  • Part Jewish should be hyphenated as it's a compound adjective.
  • Had Hess's father renounced Judaism?
  • No, it was his mother who was Jewish, as the article says. Presumably she converted, though the sources don't spell that out. Prioryman (talk) 00:25, 8 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • That's a very good question. The source says explicitly that he had four Jewish grandparents. I can't explain the contradiction except to suggest that perhaps his father had previously converted to Protestant Christianity, which would explain Hess's own religious affiliations. I don't have a source for that, though. Hess's father doesn't appear in the story at all except for his parentage so he evidently died before his own religious heritage became an issue. • Then add a note to that effect to the article. Layout the evidence and say that nothing is known for certain about his parent's religion, etc.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 10:57, 8 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • Well, I can't say that "nothing is known for certain" since someone obviously does know - it's just that the sources don't spell it out. I've added a note to that effect. Prioryman (talk) 19:40, 8 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • What was Hess's rank when he enlisted? Promotion to Lieutenant 4 years later seems remarkably slow, especially for someone who was decorated with the EK1.
  • I'm afraid I don't have that information. I agree that it seems very slow but I don't have any further details - none of the sources I've seen mention it. Prioryman (talk) 00:25, 8 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • Is there a link of some kind that more fully explains the Frontkämpfer-Privleg?
  • Can you add a sentence then on the privileges associated with that in general?--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 01:52, 8 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • No spaces between text and m-dashes.
  • This sentence is awkward: Hess's Jewish mother Elisabeth and sister Berta believed that his protection also extended to them and did not comply with the restrictions imposed on Jews, but were mistaken in this belief.
  • No DABs
  • Images properly licensed.
  • The Washington Post link is dead and needs to be fixed.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 21:06, 7 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
