Talk:Elgato/Archives/2016

Founding year is not 1992 but rather 2001 or 2002

Markus Fest started a company in 1992, and I believe it was called Miles Software, with a partner who has since died. He is the creator of the Toast CD recording software which was then distributed by Astarte. The product Toast was sold to Adaptec in 1997. Then, in early 2000, Elgato was founded in Los Gatos, CA. Before that time, the company name Elgato was not in use by Mr. Fest, I am quite sure. Can't provide any refs on this readily, though. You could probably ask Mr. Fest, but that would be original research, which WP doesn't approve of, haha. I am still surprised that no one has corrected this here as it should be quite obvious that Elgato did not exist before 200x. 109.125.117.28 (talk) 14:53, 12 December 2015 (UTC)

Miles Software GmbH was [and perhaps still "is"] the name of a German company founded in 1992. It subsequently established a US subsidiary company - Elgato Sytems. With effect from 14th July 2003 the German parent company called Miles Sofware GmbH began operating/communicating under the Elgato name [ https://www.elgato.com/en/news/elgato-reorganizes ]. The referenced press release makes no mention of whether or not the German company changed it's legal name from Miles Software Gmbh to (eg) Elgato GmbH. Nevertheless, whatever it's legal name today, it is correct to say that the German parent company operating as Elgato was founded in 1992. 79.70.34.99 (talk) 19:09, 14 June 2016 (UTC)
