I got stung by one of these! edit
Man, my friends and I went snorkeling this past weekend in the Gulf of Mexico off of Alabama's beaches and we were stung by these electric rays all day. When we were standing we would feel something soft and squishy rub against our legs and then sometimes we would step on them and they would send an electric shock through our feet and sometimes when we were under water digging through the sea floor, we would come across one and it would sting us on the hand. The sting does not hurt and is more of a shock than anything....it's like "Oh, something just shocked me." Kind of like when you scoot across the carpet and then touch metal. Maybe these were little rays or they were just giving is a "warning" shock. We never saw them b/c they blend in with the sand and plus the water was not clear enough to see them.
