"Generally speaking, support and opposition for the legislation has followed predictable ideological and philosophical cleavages. Apart from the New Zealand Anti-Vivisection Society and NORML New Zealand, there are few left-wing organisations that oppose this legislation. The Direct Democracy Party of New Zealand also opposes the bill."

This paragraph has a strong bias to it, and should be edited to be neutral - 60.234.211.172 (talk) 06:36, 19 December 2007 (UTC)MikeEReply

Reasons for various edits:

Reference to John Boscawen's links to the BRT were removed due to relevence. He is not acting on behalf or with the BRT and therefore the link is irrelevent for this topic. It would certainly be relevent in his own profile however. Annette King's links to Trade Unions are not deemed relevent to this article for example...

Secondly, while "predominantly the Right" is referenced. The article that is linked to mentions nothing about the political orientation of the protestors.

Thirdly, the Electoral Commission has NOT "dropped its criticisms of the Bill". Helene Catt was pleased with Annette King for giving an interpretation (as was mentioned in the reference article) however Annette King has since admitted her interpretation may have been wrong and was only a 'personal opinion'. NB, in this article from one day after the referenced one, http://www.nzherald.co.nz/section/1/story.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10479268 that the Commission is still seeking clarification and that while Annette King has pledged to give an interpretation before the bill is passed, this has still not happened.

Wikipedia users should be careful about accepting facts simply because they are referenced. it is important to ensure that the reference actually says what it is alledged that it does and that there isn't more up to date information that conflicts with it.

Note to editors of this page: the supposed quotation from me on the page ("nazi" etc) is taken so much out of context that it completely changes the meaning. This mischievous citing of me has been pointed out publicly already and it is disappointing to see it here. Can it please be removed? signed Nicky Hager203.97.100.250 22:32, 23 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Proposing Move

edit

The page should/will be updated following the passage of the bill today, however, I suggest we move this page to Electoral Finance Act. Thoughts? Objections? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Quadparty (talkcontribs) 09:20, 18 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

I would have thought that the pages in the External Links that have the wording of the Bill should be changed to pages that have the wording of the Act. There was alot of changes made in the last minute, and these pages may not be the most accurate versions available. Drkshadowmaster Contributions Talk Page 06:50, 13 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
