Quade Winter score

The Operetta research center ref says that in "1997 ... it was produced and recorded by the Ohio Light Opera, using Herbert’s original orchestrations, reconstructed by Quade Winter from Herbert’s manuscripts, held in the collection of the Library of Congress." -- Ssilvers (talk) 21:20, 7 December 2014 (UTC)

From what I understand, he interpolated material that was not part of Eileen so he could claim that it's "his" version. But I don't believe this is documented anywhere. kosboot (talk) 21:39, 7 December 2014 (UTC)

Kosboot, an editor has tried to delete the sentence, including Winter's name, and then edit warred concerning it. Please look at the version history. What do you suggest we do to improve the article? -- Ssilvers (talk) 21:40, 7 December 2014 (UTC)

Article title

I don't think this article should be titled "Eileen (musical)". While I understand that this work lives in the space between musical theatre and opera and there is an argument to be made that this is more of a musical than an opera, shouldn't we follow the creator's labeling and disambiguate this "Eileen (opera)"? @Ssilvers I would think of it as an operetta; although Herbert didn't use that word. The printed score says "opera in three acts". I would be fine with operetta if we have a source for that, otherwise I say go with what is in the score.4meter4 (talk) 22:18, 1 June 2023 (UTC)

The New York Times says "operetta" here. Also see this and this, this, and this. Of course, you can also find sources calling it an opera or a musical, and generally I like to respect authors wishes on these sorts of things (that's why I have always been careful to call the G&S works comic operas). I agree with respecting the author's wishes for the opening sentence and title. I added a sentence explaining sources vary on describing it as an opera, operetta, and musical. "Light opera" always seems to live in this weird place where sources are not consistent about defining what exactly it is.4meter4 (talk) 02:09, 2 June 2023 (UTC)
