Dates of EDT Initial Release edit

I first encountered KED in 1980 on a machine running MINC - cannot find a reliable cite for its origin.

This url http://mvb.saic.com/freeware/info-vax/2005_016.txt

claims that KED dates back to 1977 (perhaps - but not many RT-11's were using video terminals then) Tedickey 14:30, 10 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

In 1985, I was told (knowledgable source on third-party products) that the version of EDT running on VMS was not developed by DEC, that it was a third-party product which DEC provided (and because they did not have the source, they were unable to improve it). Google shows only one hint of this (a symposium mention of a user-supplied EDT in 1985) Tedickey 14:41, 10 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps that was EDT+ Tedickey 18:25, 10 September 2007 (UTC)Reply
On the other hand, EDT was not listed as a registered trademark in the 1980 and 1983 manuals, but is listed now, for instance:

Here is a link which implies that EDT was written no earlier than 1976: http://www.techwr-l.com/archives/0703/techwhirl-0703-00402.html Tedickey 18:25, 10 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Propose split edit

The two (or more) edt editors are not related. I propose splitting this atricle into EDT (Digital) and EDT (UNIVAC), leavinghis article as a disambiguation page. If other EDTs are notable they could be added. Peter Flass (talk) 12:08, 1 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Agree. There seems to be a coincidence in naming, no more. That's disambguation, not a joint article.
I'd go further - how about merging the DEC articles for EDT, TPU and EVE (including the rewritten EDT-in-TPU)? That would give a simpler overall structure for a history of DEC's text editing tools. Andy Dingley (talk) 13:16, 1 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
Good idea. I'll do the split and let someone more familiar with DEC to merge the articles. Peter Flass (talk) 14:10, 1 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
Okay, done. Split content to EDT (Digital), split content to EDT (Univac) Peter Flass (talk) 18:39, 1 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
