I shy away from taking the initiative of editing Wiki Articles; However....
This Wiki should absolutely have references to Sharable Content Object Reference Model - SCORM specifications, and versions of that specification.
It should reference the Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) initiative of the Department of Defense, which wrote the specification.
It should reference to and describe the current Development and Research Focus of the ADL, which is the development of an autonomous agent, declared as a Personal Assistant to the Next Generation Learner (PAL), in reference to Web 3.0, which ADL vaguely describes as the Next Generation Learner Environment.[1] →108.82.129.24 (talk) 05:27, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
- Wikipedia has the advantage of linking to its other articles, and of not needing to endlesslessly repeat the same material in multiple locations. SCORM is a technical issue that is reasonable to add to this article as a brief mention, and as a brief mention only. Online Learning On the Older and Younger Mind
For the first time in 15 years, I sat in a classroom. Beginning with a community college, my higher education commenced. I was forced to transfer when I moved to another state, and subsequently transferred to an online program. The online program allowed me the flexibility to turn any place with internet into my classroom, and enabled me to accelerate the process. After 2 moves and 5 transfers, I graduated with a bachelors degree. Now I am passionate about incorporating online or elearning into every classroom in an effort to remove the boundaries of the conventional education system. From blogs, wikis, and web pages to podcasts, digital stories, and online courses the world of elearning is vastly expanding.
As I consider my masters project, I am gathering information on how elearning compares to the standard classroom and if it has changed the way we learn. When a child is encouraged to peruse a hand held digital device at 18 months old, does it affect their development? Are we permanently changing how we learn and if so, what happens if we lose these modes of application and we must return to the archaic methods of education? According to, Monitor staff writer, Siri Carpenter we are still determining the effects of the digital age. (Carpenter, 2000) Researchers are comparing the digital age to television's initial effect on society. (Carpenter, 2000) Apparently, there are positive and negative effects from the advances in technology and these effects are still surfacing.

Spelling of eLearning
There are many methods of spelling e-learning. For example:
eLearning ... e-learning ... e-Learning

Concepts & Misconceptions
The concept e-learning is vague and means different things to different people. It basically is a corporate marketing term that replaces many terms used previously. That said, it never means "use of technology to support learning". Technology includes things like books and dry erase markers and the terms "educational technology" or "learning technology" cover such things. E-learning seems to be about the use of either digital technology or, more specifically, technology associated with networked digital devices (e.g., the Internet) and associated software and courseware. E-learning should be distinguished from online learning (i.e., online instruction) or should be labeled a synonym. The issue of whether e-learning is about instruction or learning should be addressed. (Yes, I know educators have worked hard to confuse the terms.) Learning can be done by someone without aid or intervention. Instruction involves a plan (intervention) to aid learning of targeted outcomes. Everybody can learn own their own with no instruction or "scaffolding" just by attending to new information. We educators (i.e., instructors) and learning scientists help nobody by continuing to confuse the terms.
The section on media is insufficient and misleading. It basically just list various media. All these media can and have been used in classrooms by teachers who would not claim to be doing e-leanring (i.e., e-instruction). Many researchers have asserted that media cannot improve instructional effectiveness, but this perspective and research is not mentioned. Worse, the article mentions "learning styles", which don't exist, as support for using video devices. Video communication devices include moving pictures and audio--dynamic media, but a "visual learning style" is (incorrectly) said to learn better from visual information, which means pictures and graphics images. This section should say what media are typically used with e-learning and why (i.e., why theoretically or based on research the medium supports learning). Robotczar (talk) 17:23, 25 March 2014 (UTC)
