I noticed that the album "Heartbeat" is stated as having been released in 1987. I have a copy of it, and the copyright is for "1986 CBS, Inc." Perhaps the video came out afterward, in '87, and this caused the mix-up.

Billion Dollar Mystery?

I distinctly remember Don Johnson being arrested on the Swiss border with over $1,000,000,000 dollars in his trunk. I never heard how it was resolved or why Miami Vice had a billion dollars. Anyone know?--TheGrza 21:43, 5 November 2005 (UTC)

Driver's Ed video

I remember seeing a driving safety video with Johnson in it. I specifically remember him drawing attention to the fact that he never wore a seat belt on the show, but that, despite that, the kids watching it should.

Timing in Griffith affair

One of the refs -- "A Wedding Belle Gives Miami Spice", late '87, mentions her only to say (in the context of an in-character wedding)

... he has tied the knot three times—in two earlier quickie marriages and at the end of a long relationship with actress Melanie Griffith.

in which it should be noted that in context, "earlier" explicitly means pre-1981, and probably but not explicitly pre-1976. A previous editor inferred it meant "before meeting Griffith", but that would follow only from one assumption that the "long relationship" was exclusive (which he says it wasn't, even close to wedding day, plus another about when it became so.
The other ref in the nbrhood -- "A Baby for Don and Melanie", early '89, says her "four-year adolescent romance with Johnson" began 16 years before (certainly not meaning 5844 days), which could mean on one hand '73, or on the other mid-Aug '72 to mid-Aug '73. As to the ages, a specific page in the 7-pg Time article previously cited says

At 22 he began a four-year liaison with 14-year-old Melanie Griffith, the daughter of Actress Tippi Hedren, with whom he had appeared in the movie The Harrad Experiment. (The same ages do appear in another ref.)

BTW, 2 comments need to be made abt our past language on this subject:

1. The essentially verbatim use of the Time text (omission of the phrase bracketed by its commas, replacing "he" by "Johnson", and omitting "had") is a copyvio.
2. The omission of the phrase makes our version unsupported, and almost certainly false: it implies they met as actors on the film (and suggests they were in at least one scene together), whereas the original says about who he appeared in it with, only Hedren's name (she was apparently the female lead, and he in the leading male supporting role). Griffith was indeed in the film (per IMDb), but as an uncredited extra, which that makes it unlikely that she did more, on the set, with her mother's colleague, than hang out on the fringes. She was almost certainly introduced to him as "my daughter" and a fan, and her "acting" among the extras probably did not make her even a colleague (as saying "with" intimates), let alone a professional peer.

I'm not sure the following is needed, but it confused me sufficiently that having gotten together, i'll leave it here for editors' reference in case need arises:
She was born August 9, 1957, and thus turned 14 in Aug '71, 15 in Aug '72, 16 in Aug '73, and 18 (and engaged) in Aug '75.
He was born December 15, 1949, and thus turned 22 in Dec '71, 23 in Dec. '72, and 24 in Dec. '73.
14 and 22 means the relationship started between Dec '71 (his 22nd) and Aug '72 (her 15th). Four years (which certainly does not mean 1431 days) from then can mean either any time in '75 (if it started in Dec.) and any time in '76 (if after Dec.), or, instead, in a 1-year period that may have started as early as June '75, and may have ended as late as Feb '77.

In Popular Culture

I noticed that the "In Popular Culture" section was removed in late March this year without a reason given for it's removal. I thought it was an interesting addition to the article. • "In popular culture" sections are discouraged. they become a dumping ground for (often unsourced) trivia. If something is actually relevent to a biography, it can normally be worked into the body of the article. Looking at what was there in January 2011, there 5 entries. Only 2 had sources and one of the sources was questionable as a RS. All were questionable in terms of relevance.Niteshift36 (talk) 16:30, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

Ok. That's fair. I admit, I enjoy reading pop culture sections in articles, but as you mentioned, they can wind up being full of unsourced trivia which wouldn't reflect well on the article. Thanks for answering. Elnauron (talk) 21:48, 28 May 2011 (UTC)

Deleted Legal Problem

I deleted this para which had led off "Legal Problems". No charges were laid, and it boils down to he said/she said. Violates Wikipedia norms BLP & that WP is not a newspaper.

In 2001, a 36-year-old woman accused an intoxicated Johnson of squeezing and bruising her wrist and lewdly propositioning her outside a restroom at San Francisco restaurant Mas Sake, and claimed while still firmly squeezing her wrist he began drunkenly singing "Heartbeat". The woman's friends made their way across the restaurant to confront Johnson as he continued to sing but said when he saw them he let go of her and quickly fled out the back door. Johnson said he was considering buying an advertisement in the San Francisco Chronicle to state his side of the story, but later decided to post the notices on his website. Due to insufficient evidence, no charges were filed.

Birth Name

His birth name is Donald Wayne Johnson, not Donnie Wayne Johnson. He was known as "Donnie Wayne" as a child, which is where the confusion arises. Check the many print biographies that were published in the 1980s, for ref, or http://www.biography.com/people/don-johnson-9542537 . Not one single bio book refers to his birth name being Donnie.
